According to the CMVP director FIPS 140 is not a generic term for the family. FIPS 140 was an actual version of the standard and the terms should not be used in this way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.112.235.30 (talk) 13:42, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

That seems to make no sense since the two versions of the standard are FIPS 140-1 and 140-2, so is it not accurate to refer to it as a family? Jools (talk) 04:51, 17 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
