I'll be reviewing this article. — Golden talk 16:45, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lead edit

  • Fix false titles in the lead and throughout the article (e.g. "singer Dafna Dekel" should be "the singer Dafna Dekel").
If I understood false titles correctly, there should be a "the" before title-nouns, and "singer" is a noun. Please correct me if I'm wrong. — Golden talk 13:28, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I honestly can't say I totally understand this myself. This has never come up in a GA review prior to the 1996 review, and honestly I'm not entirely sure how the use false titles, if this is indeed what they are, actually infringes the GA criteria. However I'm not going to cause any further fuss here. I think adding "the" in the lead three times would make it sound very strange, so I've simplified things here by removing the professions altogether, and keeping the professions with added "the"s in the body. Thank you. — Golden talk 14:01, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Slovakia and Switzerland - Based on this, I assume that the Oxford comma is not being used in this article. If that is not the case, please let me know.
    • Thanks for flagging. I've changed this to now consistently use Oxford commas throughout to stay consistent with other articles in the series. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 12:58, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Location edit

  • No changes required.

Participating countries edit

  • Missing a comma after "Per the rules of the contest".
  • "reduction on the twenty-five" should be "reduction from the twenty-five".
  • backing vocalist for Estonia's -> "backing vocalist for the country's" since Estonia is already mentioned at the beginning of the sentence.

Production edit

  • The Eurovision Song Contest 1999 was produced by the Israeli public broadcaster Israel Broadcasting Authority could be shortened to "The Eurovision Song Contest 1999 was produced by the Israel Broadcasting Authority", as it being "Israeli" is already implied by its name.
  • Amnon Barkai served as executive producer, Aharon Goldfinger-Eldar served as producer, Hagai Mautner served as director, and Maya Hanoch [he], Mia Raveh and Ronen Levin served as designers. - I’m not sure if this sentence is useful when we don't know any of these people. Perhaps a brief introduction to them would be helpful, if possible.
    • I believe having introductions here would be out-of-scope for this article. Essentially this is credits for the contest production in prose form, and given their roles in the production are included and they were clearly working with IBA on the production of the contest, I don't personally believe that more information here would be useful to the reader. Format edit

  • The various locations and themes for each postcard are listed below by order of performance - Some of them don't list locations. For example, see Croatia, Norway, France, Poland.
    • That's a different interpretation on that sentence that I hadn't anticipated. Every postcard had a biblical story and then either one of location or theme, not both. I felt this made sense given the preceding sentence, but I've changed "and" to "or" here to make it a bit clearer. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 12:58, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Contest overview edit

  • The table below outlines the participating countries, the order in which they performed, the competing artists and songs, and the results of the voting. - The table is located far below this sentence. Perhaps moving this sentence just above the table would be more appropriate.
  • Wikilink Birmingham.

Detailed voting results edit

Broadcasts edit

Other awards edit

  • The sub-section here seems unnecessary.

  • No issues found with the spot-checked references.
