The article stub was nice, but the article was filled out with lots of copyrighted text, as well as a list of jokes which may not be encyclopedic. Harveyj 09:37, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Englishisms

edit

Some may not be familiar with these terms: "slatternhood" and "Romford". I figured I'd just let someone else do the translating; hate to mess up a good joke. ;-) --DanielCD 19:59, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Romford hasn't been in Essex since March 1965. Jim Michael (talk) 23:33, 21 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Don't let the truth, viz. the location of Romford, get in the way of a good joke! ;-) 66.155.23.67 (talk) 12:50, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ford Escort (XR3)

edit

Article should mention that the Ford Escort is also part of this Essex stereotype, particularly the XR3 model type. That is, the Essex girl's boyfriend or partner is a boy racer with such a car. The joke "How does an Essex girl turn the light on after sex? — She opens the car door" is often associated with this car. Unreferenced

edit

Could you be a little more specific about what's unreferenced? A lot of this info is general and there are some refs, so it could be assumed they are the references for anything in the article body. --Shadow Puppet 07:12, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is an odd one. I assume that many people that contributed to this article, like myself, are from the UK and therefore are perfectly aware of, and able to explain the terminology that is in common use in the country. I would question the need to cite references at all. The term "Essex Girl" has been a well-established colloquialism for years now. There is no reason to assume the term is Original Research or 'made up' - it is an established fact. I propose we remove the unreferenced tag after a few days if there is no reasonable argument that it should remain. --Mal 13:51, 1 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
References are not optional. This article should be at least as well referenced as chav is. Currently, it cites zero sources. The external links are not references, by the way. Uncle G 14:10, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bradford paragraph

edit

I'd recommend the paragraph about Bradford for deletion. It appears this was added by a Uni Sport Club to embarrass a friend, and is therefore not encyclopaedic. I added something in italics before it, because I can't remember how to get the nice little box that says the same thing to appear. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Graham Martin (talkcontribs) 13:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

Katong girl?

edit

When was this term coined? I am unfamiliar with this term and am in a region of Asia where this term should supposedly originate (because of the name). —Preceding unsigned comment added by BlueStream (talkcontribs) 11:19, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
