Fair use rationale for Image:Kingsvillecrest.PNG

edit

Image:Kingsvillecrest.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:51, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The image Image:Peleeseal.gif is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Removal of individual town articles

edit

Who decided to remove the articles giving the history and specifics of individual towns in Essex County, many of which have a 200 year history that is now missing? The current governmental arrangement could be noted without stripping other towns of their individual articles and the county itself of its pre-1990 history.MingusMingus (talk) 14:18, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Are you referring to the redlinks to places like Gosfield South, Malden, etc etc? It looks to me as though they never had articles. PKT(alk) 16:23, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm referring to towns like Harrow that have a considerable history and once had their own articles. But these articles appear to have been removed by someone, and the links to them now lead you to the articles of the towns into which they've been amalgamated administratively by the Ontario government. But the new articles have none of the local history and description that the previous individual town articles once had. It's like the amalgamation somehow knocked Harrow and other towns completely off the map and erased their history. 74.72.224.4 (talk) 14:48, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
The article for Harrow wasn't deleted, it was changed to a redirect. I agree with you that articles for long-standing communities like Harrow should not be deleted, but I also agree with the other editor that the article is in desperate need of references. I have also added a "references" tag to highlight that problem. Any others? PKT(alk) 15:15, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
It is now Sept 2012 and the lack of history of the individual towns and former townships of Essex is still very evident. Isn't there someone with local knowledge and the ability to put words together to make interesting sentences who could do the job? Once upon a time there were three townships called Sandwich East, Sandwich West and Sandwich South. Before they got gobbled up by Windsor, LaSalle and Tecumseh, what were they like?

Orphaned references in Essex County, Ontario

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Essex County, Ontario's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "cp2001":

  • From Hastings County: Statistics Canada 2001 Census - Hastings County
  • From Haliburton County: "Population and Dwelling Counts, for Canada, Provinces and Territories, and Census Divisions, 2001 and 1996 Censuses". 2001 Census. Statistics Canada.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 23:01, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Windsor as county seat?

In the infobox, Windsor is listed as the county seat, but the article says it is not part of the country. What's up?
