EIS/EA clarification?

The "Environmental impact assessment" page begins by defining Environmental Impact STATEMENT... Isn't an EIS *different* than an EA (Environmental Assessment)? And where does the 3-word term "Environmental Impact ASSESSMENT" come in to play? Seems like someone needs to look at both these pages (and these THREE terms) and clarify... and maybe delete the "Environmental impact assessment" page (or redirect it to the [now-nonexistent] EA page)? philiptdotcom 06:49, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Environmental technology template

I'd like to replace the Environmental technology template with one that matches the standard navbox style, i.e. horizontal instead of vertical, collapsing and typically placed at the bottom of article pages. I've done a mock up of what this would look like at {{User:Jwanders/ET}}. Figured this was a big enough change that I should post before going ahead with it. This article needs a conceptual introduction to EIA, and a history of EIA, before it gets to what currently forms the entire body: country-by-country descriptions. this section would make a lot more sensible reading if the countries are time ordered (re start of federal laws} instead of alphabetized. the flow of events would make some real sense to readers. Anlace 14:28, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't agree. I think alphabeticised order reflects the fact that the country listings are not here primarily as part of a history of EIA, but as part of a description of practices in different jurisdictions. I might propose, for instance, in the US section:

The Environmental Assessment includes brief discussions of the purpose and need of the proposal, of practicable alternatives to the proposal, and of the environmental impacts resulting from and occurring to the proposed actions and alternatives considered practicable, plus a listing of studies conducted and agencies and stakeholders consulted to reach these conclusions. It becomes a draft public document when notice of it is published in a newspaper of general circulation and following mandated public comment period(s) responds to any comments received to transform into a final public environmental review record without any irreversible action upon the proposal preceding certification.   • Way too long. Suggest splitting off the country-level stuff into one or more separate articles and extracting general items into this. Didn't edit the country stuff except to fix some refs. The Canada refs are still broken. I couldn't figure out a straightforward repair.
  • Consolidated and improved refs and used sfn in various places.

EIS/EIA Confusion

First of all EA and EIA mean the same thing, as does EIS and ES. The current trend is to use EIA and EIS. This article is very confused - Environmental Impact Assessment and Envionmental Impact Statement are continually muddled up. An EIA is exactly what it says - an assesment of the environmental impact of a given development/action. The EIS is produced to document the findings of the EIA, and as such is usually required as part of a planning application throughout the world. Particularly in the EU section this confusion is apparent - the minimum requirements of an EIS are laid out and described as an "EIA", and the non technical summary, an essential requirement of an EIS in the EU is said to be the EIS itself. 130.88.205.76 (talk) 22:27, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

No information about sewage treatment plants?

EIAs are often done when a new sewage treatment plant is built or an existing one modified. I am surprised the term "treatment plant" does not appear in this article. Surely it is a good example of where EIAs are used? I don't know enough about EIAs, otherwise I would add it myself (and I didn't just want to add it under See Also). But a link to wastewater treatment plant or sewage treatment plant somewhere in the text would be appropriate. EvMsmile (talk) 00:58, 23 November 2015 (UTC)
