"Plot" 'graph

edit

Tho it's hard to tell from my prematurely saved edit summary, i changed the word "Owned" to "Dominated", since the "Prologue" (reproduced at NYTimes "Books") describes house prices in the town, making it clear that it is not (any longer?) owned outright by its founding family, with the housing being rented. (Well, perhaps residents "buy" into it on a condominium basis, but that seems unlikely, so asserting would require a specific supporting ref.)
Of lesser significance, it's hard to believe you can make a novel out of the brief time that a student would survive being bullied by every last one of their school's other students, but i satisfied myself by avoiding the Thurber-esque image of a student being bullied by every room or building (but one) that make up the school's "physical plant".

I removed this first line of the plot summary- "Richard Russo--from his first novel, Mohawk, to his most recent, Straight Man--has demonstrated a peerless affinity for the human tragicomedy, and with this stunning new novel he extends even further his claims on the small-town, blue-collar heart of the country." This sounds like it was taken straight from the publisher. -Lobejks 6/16/2011

Characters

edit

I just finished reading the book, and noticed some misinformation in the characters listing- full names, characters that go unmentioned (that are still pivotal), etc. I get the feeling that the original writer of the section saw the HBO mini-series adaption, but never read the book. Nobody who read the book would forget C.B. Whiting. I'm going to go ahead and add details where they're missing, but I won't remove anything or provide contradictory information until someone gets back to me on this, I guess. Agreeablecynic (talk) 22:47, 11 January 2014 (UTC) Alright, fixed most of the stuff- I'm still bothered with the description of Francine Whiting because it's blatantly one sided, but it's not necessarily untruthful, because she is portrayed in this manner earlier in the book. --Agreeablecynic (talk) 00:17, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
