Talk:Emiratis

Emirates People: Are we looking at the same article, Leimanp? This article has no infobox, and it's a stub... articles with "people" in the title are only used for ethnic groups, and this is clearly not an ethnic group. In addition, there's nothing on this article that isn't already on the Demographics of the United Arab Emirates or United Arab Emirates. This article should clearly be redirected to the Demographics page.--Yolgnu (talk) 06:44, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we are looking at the same article. Instead of reverting your edit, I copied the text from the edit before your edit and moved the information from within {{Infobox Ethnic group}} into its own paragraph. And I agree that this article is not about an ethnic group, as Emirati is not an ethnic group; it is about a nationality. Also, have you had a look at the demographics or country article? They are in very bad quality and neither has the information provided in this article. So I do not know where you see that "there's nothing on this article that isn't already on the" other articles. There is no valid reason to redirect this article. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 18:19, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
This should be merged with the Demographics article. "x people" articles are for ethnic groups only.--Yolgnu (talk) 01:26, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would appreciate it if you can provide a link to the naming policy where it states that "x people" can only be about ethnic groups. And, if that is the case, would naming the article as "Emirati" or "Emiratis" fix this problem? I personally see nothing wrong with including "people" in the title, unless there is consensus or a policy against it. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 04:09, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is very frustrating. What's your argument against moving it? There's no "American people" or "Saudi Arabian people" article, so why should there be this article?--Yolgnu (talk) 06:25, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

A couple of points – no one needs to make an argument against moving it, since the article already exists. Apparently you have taken issue with this article, so the onus is really on you to explain why the article should be moved. That can be achieved only through consensus and not through unilateral decisions. Second, how did you determine that "x people" articles are for ethnic groups only? Was this through a Wikipedia guideline or through your own determination? If it was through a Wiki guideline, please specify what that is. If it's through your own determination, you will need to further explain your rationale and build consensus before a move to the Demographics article can be made. Thanks AreJay (talk) 15:43, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yolgnu, just because there are no other articles about other nationalities does not mean that there cannot be any for Emiratis. Can you please explain, as AreJay asked, why exactly you feel this article should not exist. I see your desired redirect as an equivalent to a deletion; and I cannot see any rationale for a deletion. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 23:47, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also note the Swiss people, Filipino people and Brazilian people articles. It's not just for ethnic groups (although the Swiss people article is at "Swiss (nationality)" at the moment), and there are other articles about nationalities.Saimdusan Talk|Contribs 09:04, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Bani Yas section.

edit

It seems to me the Bani Yas section is total crap... СЛУЖБА (talk) 21:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Incomplete sentence makes paragraph impossible to understand.

edit

The last paragraph in the Values section, under Culture is missing a word. Without it, it is not clear what the author is trying to say. This is the paragraph as it looks right now.

"Some statistics show that despite government initiatives for increase in wider Emirati participation in how the country, most Emiratis did not pay much attention to it, as evidenced by a lacklustre turn-out to the advisory body."

Wider participation in how the country......what? I don't want to assume anything. Also, reading this article isn't very helpful to someone who knows nothing about the Middle East's tribal culture and history. Is it possible to give a brief explanation regarding the evolution of tribal culture? I think it's fascinating that this way of life still exists. It would be similar if feudalism still existed, no? --Stephlet 02:06, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

I've removed this stupid section. No other nationality has such a section, so should this page be different.144.138.236.221 (talk) 03:57, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Racial Classification section

edit

The assertion that Emiratis, like other Middle Easterners, are considered Caucasians based on the genetic study listed is inaccurate and misrepresents the study. The concept of a Caucasian race is outdated and lacks scientific validity, having been widely discredited by modern science and anthropology. The source itself does not specifically mention Emiratis once. Please remove this section or at least provide better sources and/or acknowledge the susceptibility of such a claim. Not to mention that "Emirati" is a national identity and not a genetic one. Anonymoususer12390 (talk) 16:30, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
