Talk:Ely, Nevada

Pronunciation

The town is pronounced EE-lee, just like the original in England, and that's probably worth mentioning. Most people unfamiliar with the area tend to guess EE-lye. Slgillett 02:40, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism from User 84.50.98.7

edit

User 84.50.98.7 put back some things that another editor removed. In reading the tutorials on here, those items shouldn't be here, Trivia, or worked in to the article. They also repeated things twice, like they copied and pasted the info, Pat Nixon was in the History and Trivia section, there was an ATTRACTIONS section in both History and Geography, with the same information, and images were repeated twice, with two Wildlife sections. Could you tell me what to do next? It looks like vandalism. Thanks for now. Best O Fortuna (talk) 02:14, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Can someone fix this article so that some of the images are not forcing the text down, leaving gaps. I thought images didn't used to do this, you had to use a break/clear/all to force the text to the bottom of the image? Now they seem to do by default. Is it the use of the "000px"? Anyone, someone please fix. 207.69.139.150 (talk) 07:54, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks fine on my browser & setup. You might try fiddling with the default thumbnail size in "My preferences -files" (top right), or just enlarging your browser window. Good luck! Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 18:21, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ely as capitol?

edit

Ely was never the capitol of Nevada and Carson City was founded a good 30 years before Ely. I am removing this falsity from the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chazran (talkcontribs) 07:32, 22 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name's origin

edit

Is it named after the Ely in England? If so, and even if not, that ought to be mentioned. Kelisi (talk) 03:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The statement that it was named after the president of a copper mining/smelting company in 1868 does not seem consistent with the statement that copper was discovered in the area in 1906. The article cited for the 1868 naming story also appears to contradict the claim that copper was not found in 1906: this year was when the railroad was opened. The railroad was built to ship copper ores. Copper must have been discovered before 1906. Rich (talk) 20:56, 31 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
