Etymology edit
Someone who knows needs to explain in this article the source of the adjective "Edwardian" for this type of entertainment. Since it was invented by George Edwardes, it could be assumed to be named for him. But since it overlaps the Edwardian era—which is much better known—a more likely assumption is that this genre, like that era, is named for Edward VII. I suspect that the vast majority of readers would make that latter assumption, since the adjective is practically unknown except as a reference to that king.
The problem is that this genre was invented almost a decade before the beginning of Edward's reign and therefore of the Edwardian era. If it was called "Edwardian" from its beginning, then it must have been named for George Edwardes, not King Edward. If, however, it became known as "Edwardian" only well after its emergence, named for the era in which it flourished even though it began before that era began, then it uses the term "Edwardian" loosely but in its commonly understood sense.
Someone who knows the subject well should address the source of its name in the article, since a good case can be made for either of the two sources I described.--Jim10701 (talk) 19:07, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Where is The Merry Widow (1907) edit
I'm curious why Edwardes' 1907 version of The Merry Widow isn't listed among his accomplishments? It was one of his biggest hits. Help! edit
Where should I ask about the sources(for midis mostly) that are usually put in the external links of Edwardian musical comedies. Can I ask the question here since it's related to these musical comedies and the wiki pages or a user talk page or what?
(here is the question anyway: Since gsarchive.net shut down temporarily, should we temporarily edit the Edwardian comedy pages featuring one of their links and replace them with WayBack machine versions or not?)Isangtaosamundo (talk) 06:59, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
