No Discussion of Controversy Surrounding Factuality of the Memoir? edit

I find it surprising that this article says almost nothing about the controversy surrounding the factuality of the book. I am only starting to look into this, so I don't yet claim to be an expert, but there are several articles from reputable news sources that call many important aspects of the story into question. For example: Deseret News This article seems to be biased toward the other extreme, but the discussion below the article points to other useful sources. It does seem justifiable to ignore articles on the book that Tara Westover's mother wrote in response Herald article on "Educating". However, this article from an author in a nearby community seems to summarize the controversy well. I added a few comments to the Background section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daguilar (talkcontribs) 20:01, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Note edit

I've moved this live - I am a little worried that this may be merged into the author's article, but I think that both Westover and the book may have enough notability independent of each other to justify two articles. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:03, 18 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The book itself has received seemingly non-stop attention. I intended to make a separate page a little while ago but wasn't sure how to go about doing so. Thanks for taking the work to fix the page to wiki standards. I grieve in stereo (talk) 23:49, 28 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Description/book content needs to be shorter edit

The summary of the book's content needs to be shorter, and not a list of events. The list of persons seems too long - reads like series or soap opera description. Since the book was nominated for numerous awards, there must be more formal reviews that can be cited.Parkwells (talk) 20:37, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Could someone add Dayton Literary Peace Prize Nominee to list of awards and recognition? edit

I don't know how to format the source properly. https://www.daytonliterarypeaceprize.org/2019-awards/

References in Background section edit

I'm a little confused by the citations at the end of this sentence, "Westover has not responded directly to these claims, but per the book's acknowledgements, prior to publication it was professionally fact-checked by Ben Phelan of This American Life and GQ.[7][8][9]" None of those citations affirm that it was professionally fact-checked. The first references the book itself. The second (8, currently) only mentions that Phelan worked on a separate project for NPR as a fact-checker. The third simply links to Phelan's author profile at GQ. None are a direct reference to the fact-checking having taken place. Am I being overly critical or just missing something here? On second glance, it appears these additions were made by User:Retrocrispr in 2020. Their only contributions have been to this article and the article on Tara Westover, the author of the book. Pinging @Retrocrispr out of courtesy. Ckoerner (talk) 15:36, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm being bold and have removed the sentence from both articles. Ckoerner (talk) 15:48, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Buck or Buck's Peak? edit

Google and Google Earth/Map services list the named community as "Buck Peak". Is there any way to discern between the two options?
