they erected the vestiges of Durham Cathedral
Vestiges are traces of something now gone. This wording suggests that they found the fallen remnants of a ruined church and put them back up again. Is that the case? If not, how about a word like nucleus? —Tamfang (talk) 23:22, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
