William DuPont Jnr. edit

Could somebody check this please, because at the moment William DuPont Jnr. is referred to as having been born in 1896 and then fathered himself, having previously fathered his brother Marion DuPont two years earlier. I think Mary Lammot DuPont was married to William DuPont Snr. (judging by ages). Are William DuPont Jnr. and his wife and children (whoever they actually are) notable? 172.215.41.204 12:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Interfamily marriages edit

Eleuthère Irénée du Pont married Sophie Madeleine Dalmas (1775-1828) in 1791 and had the following children: Sophie Madeleine du Pont (1810-1888), married Samuel Francis du Pont, no children.

Victor Marie du Pont married Gabrielle Joséphine de la Fite de Pelleport and had the following children: Samuel Francis du Pont (1803-1865), married Sophie Madeleine du Pont, no children.

They were cousins? Do I read this correct? Marrying your cousin is perfectly fine in my country, and Im sure it was during this time, but as it certainly would be relevant to the article, was there any occurances of semi- or incestual relationships resulting in children?

Irénée du Pont married Irene Sophie du Pont (sister of Alexis Felix du Pont). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1201SLD (talkcontribs) 00:37, 24 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Capitalization edit

Perhaps it should be noted that "du Pont" is not standard French capitalization - when a name includes Le/La/Les or a contraction thereof it is typically capitalized - checking the Library of Congress name authority files, it looks like when the family emigrated later members started using a minuscule "D" - regardless, the whole section needs a source.Eldamorie (talk) 21:00, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, upon further investigation I appear to be completely mistaken. This page still needs sources though.Eldamorie (talk) 21:03, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Incomplete or sanitized? edit

Is this article merely incomplete or has it been sanitized? Reading only this article one would think the family doesn't exist anymore. Who owns all of that wealth now? Who are the living heirs? Article covers history, lists a bunch of dead people and suspiciously leaves it at that... Handpolk (talk) 09:34, 15 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I added some stuff. Moved some stuff around. Article could actually use a lot of improvement. Could use multiple new sections like 'Family Wealth' describe all of the money they have had historically, who inherited it and who has it now. And 'In the media' talking about various movies and things that have been made about them. As well as 'Living Heirs' naming as many possible heirs as can be verified. I agree that the article needed some emphasis on its current status since it mostly focused on the family as a historical entity. And I also agree that it shouldn't feel sanitized. But I felt the lede you gave it went a bit too far in the other direction. Saying that the family is mostly just known for being associated with terrible crimes is stretching it a bit; that makes it sound like they're viewed as some sort of pariah family, which isn't accurate. They're still well known for their involvement in politics (Pete du Pont had a ~monthly column in the WSJ that ended just last year, and the current Republican Party Chairman in Delaware is a du Pont), business, their charitable donations, and family members who remain involved in the various family trusts. I think it's important for the article to reflect that in addition to noting their involvement in crimes. At any rate, the article still does need a lot more work covering both the family's 213 year history in America as well as its current state. Ethelred unraed (talk) 13:10, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I just saw this. If you'd like to edit it to reflect what you said there, I don't have a problem with that. I wasn't aware of that stuff you mentioned. It seems there aren't many people actively monitoring this article as my edits have stood for quite awhile and they probably shouldn't have, given what you just said. If you want to maybe edit in your version and then I can make edits if I think you went too far or something? Handpolk (talk) 04:02, 11 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
