Spreading wood fern. Rhizomes stout, covered by light brown scales; stipes usually about as long as the blades; leaves 2.5-11 dm. tall, blades 3-pinnate, broadly triangular to ovate or oblong in outline, pinnae short-stalked, asymmetrical; sori small; indusia sub-persistent, glabrous, sometimes glandular.
