Do we have permission to use the Drexel logo's?

These logo's are owned by Drexel University. Image:Drexel.png, Image:Dxl-logo.png. Is it copyright infringement to have them on the wiki? If so, they should be deleted. If not, I will put them back on the Drexel University page. MB 05:12 Feb 26, 2003 (UTC)

The only restriction on the use of others' trademarks is that they must be properly attributed. This can be accomplised by a footnote anywhere on the page, such as:
The Drexel Logo is a registered trademark of Drexel University
or
The Drexel Dragons Logo is a trademark of Drexel university
Of course, you need to check whether the trademark is in fact registered (often signified by the "Circle R" character) or not (not specifically marked or marked "TM). Mkweise 16:09 Feb 26, 2003 (UTC)

This article is composed entirely of a bunch of lists, with almost no real writing anywhere in it! While some of these facts and statistics may have a place in the article, it isn't a substitute for writing, and substantial information in paragraph form. Somebody with the IP address 129.25.*.* has been adding text straight from Drexel websites, creating copyright as well as potential POV problems. The 129.25 IP is in fact a Drexel non-residential subnet, however I am assuming that the professor or student involved does not have the right to submit Drexel's copyrighted text, and removing or rewording these contributions accordingly. (The most recent was the addition of text from the Columbia Encyclopedia, which is certainly not owned by Drexel, making it pretty clear that the submitter is uninformed about copyright rules on Wikipedia) --TexasDex 22:59, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Drexel and Penn snowball fight

I've been a Drexel student for 6 years (currently a grad student) and I've never heard of this tradition. If there is no source for this, it should be removed. The closest source I've been able to find on Google is a site here that says in 1956:

March 19 - snowball fight After about 25 complaints from people pelted by snowballs at 36th and Locust Streets, twelve policemen raided the intersection. When some of the students ran into the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, police followed and rounded up 24 students, including the photographic editor of the Daily Pennsylvanian student newspaper. They were released with a warning from the judge.

I'd hardly say that having a fight with innocent bystanders once in 1956 constitutes a "tradition." So if there are no objections I'll remove this as hearsay. mbecker 22:13, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Notable Alumni

As much as some people don't like it, myself included, Drexel has indeed graduated Mr. Behe, for better or for worse. His work in intelligent design does make him less notable, especially given the recent controversy involving intelligent design. So please refrain from removing him from the notable alumni list, or denoting that he's less notable just because you disagree with intelligent design. --ImmortalGoddezz 02:49, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I looked at several other university articles and none of them have a Notable Alumni list. A 'Notable Alumni' list is subjective by nature so does it even belong in the article at all? I say scrap the whole section.  Monkeyman 03:14, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually several universities have lists like this University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of Michigan just to name a few. Since it's already an established section why delete it? The only problem we seem to have is somebody disagrees with Michael Behe and vandalizes that section by removing him on this page. The article currently has a lot of top-level sections with very little content, and no sensible order. Therefore I'll be working on re-organizing the whole article so there are fewer top-level sections and more second-level sections. My planned outline is here:

Article Expansion

Looking over this article I think 'well it's a good article, I suppose, but couldn't it be better?.' This school has a good reputation in the academic field and I believe that this article can be expanded. Right now I just feel that it is an empty shell of what it could be, it has bits and pieces of information, but not nearly enough to live up to Drexel's reputation. I think that with some major work it could even become a featured article. (For example Cornell University or the University of Michigan) Pretty soon I'm going to add a to do list onto this page and start working on the page in my spare time. If anybody else wants to contribute please feel free, also if you have any comments, thoughts, ideas, etc don't hesitate in voicing them. --ImmortalGoddezz 18:53, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Expansion and Recent Work

As of so far a Drexel University template has been created. The major features of this template include the colleges, the campuses, and the co-op program. The colleges (except one which I will do post-haste) have all been moved out of the main page, and put onto their own page in preparation for expansion. The idea of all this work is to upgrade this article from it's current status to a good article. Since the 'main' work is completed (taking the colleges and creating their own page and getting them off the main page. The {{underconstruction}} tag is going to be taken off. There is still a lot to do with this article (see the to-do list) and a lot that is going to be done within the upcoming weeks. I invite anybody who wants to participate to please do so. The main goal of this is to become a featured status article (eg Duke University, Cornell University, Michigan State University). Thanks. --ImmortalGoddezz 04:00, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Expanding on some of these to do items... I think that there should be a publication's section having DragonFire, MAYA, Format C, The Lexerd, and possibly the Drexel Daily Digest on it. Each of these individually do not merit an article (but one or two do merit inclusion into the template) and over all it would be easier just to have them all on one page for now unless some of them can be expanded enough to merit their own article. I think The Triangle should be left in it's own article for now since it has been established, and possibly included at a later date depending on the length of the Drexel University Publications article. --ImmortalGoddezz 04:06, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Merge tag

Somebody has placed a merge tag the Construction projects at Drexel University page with the edit summary of 'NOT a standalone article'. In the spirit of discussion I am stating here why I have created this in the first place. Drexel University has proposed a number of high profile campus renovations that will affect not only Drexel University but Philadelphia (i.e. skyscraper that will double as a hotel and convention center) as well. Considering this page was just created today (Yesterday according to my wiki-time) I have not had time to expand this or get other reference links besides that of the triangle. As I have stated several times on the talk page my ultimate goal is to get the drexel page to that of good article status which recently has consisted of taking material from the main page, expanding it and creating it's own article. I do not think this page needs to be merged as of right now due to the fact that it can be expanded, it's been on the talk page/to do list for a while stating specifically 'create construction article,' and has been on the template since its creation in early September with no objections or comments about it being on the DU page, and finally Duke University has one just like it see Construction projects at Duke University. The construction article will hopefully be expanded with the Princeton Review rankings. (#1 for small, unsightly campus or both) and how Drexel is trying to combat that. Additionally while these plans are underway I think it deserves its own article and once all the construction is done it perhaps can be merged into the main article under Drexel University's History section. --ImmortalGoddezz 03:08, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Since nobody has responded or commented about the merge tag (or removal of), and since it's been up for about 3 weeks, I'm just going to remove it for now. It might get integrated into the article later, but for now I feel that it can be expanded so it merits it's own page. The existence of an analogous article for Duke -- which I have also tagged -- says nothing per se about the appropriateness here.

The level of detail is far too much and far too transient: in six months, in one year, in three years, what will be the value? Wikipedia is not a university news bulletin, it's an encyclopedia: any of this which is actually important should be SUMMARIZED in a section on the main article if necessary. --Calton | Talk 05:48, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Here's an idea. I don't necessarily like it, but just to put it out there as a potential compromise: perhaps the construction article could be merged into the article on Constantine Papadakis, since he has been the driving force behind practically all of those changes and plans. TexasDex and I plan on within the next day to expand the independent schools with their picture, staff size, student body size, etc. After the expansion of those things are through I plan on working on the history section and expanding that from the beginning of the school to the present day. I figure that it will be easy to go from there and hit each topic down the main page (e.g. start with History, then move onto academics, etc.) I want this article to be completed by the end of December January (because I've been really busy and I've been working on the College of Law instead) at which time I want it to be brought up for review. I just state this stuff in case anybody who wants to work on it knows what I'm/we're planning on doing. Anyway since I seem to be on the whole 'lets improve Drexel U article' I'm putting the "The following users are active in maintaining and improving this article. If you have questions regarding verification and sources, they may be able to help:" tag up so if people aren't sure about something regarding the changes they can ask and know who to ask.

Now on the main reason for this post on the to-do list are a few items that I'm not sure belong under it's own school: Notable professors/achievements, and Major technological breakthroughs. I think these topics would do better under the main page (example in a research section/page, or a list of notable alumni page). So for now the schools will be expanded and the history will be worked on but those things will be left out and probably added to the main page later. --ImmortalGoddezz 21:44, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

2007 Rankings.

As of today, Drexel University's CoE ranks 53rd (for universities whose highest degree is a doctorate) and the university itself ranks 112th in the U.S. News rankings. Would someone mind putting up the CoE's ranking (with a reference) and updating 109th to 112th?

I noticed Stabilizing Ferroelectric Materials has been moving around the "Trivia" section. Aside from the fact that "Trivia" as a whole needs to go, this in particular seems non-notable in a general article about the University. Relaxing 16:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and moved Trivia into "Drexel in Popular Culture" (in the model of Harvard#Harvard_in_fiction_and_popular_culture.) It seems like it can stay as a list until enough information is accumulated to write a paragraph... or move it into it's own article (as in MIT_in_popular_culture.) Some bullets were redundant information, one was unsourced and potentially libelous, and I just left out the ferroelectrics until someone can form a notable research section.Relaxing 17:14, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I've removed information about the Drexel Shaft again and instead of leaving comments on an IP talk page, which might or might not be read, I'm opening a discussion here. The Drexel Shaft, which previously was an article, was deleted due to lack of reliable sources and notability. There has been nothing added to the information to improve the claims of notability or reliable sources to back it up. If searching for "Drexel Shaft" forwards itself to this page, then this page needs to have something about the Drexel Shaft. Otherwise, return the page on the Drexel Shaft. If you want a source, ask any Drexel student or alumni from the past 20 years. Everybody on campus knows about the shaft (and pretty much everybody has gotten it). The only reason there's no "official" source is that the college doesn't publish negative things about itself (obviously). Frankly, I've never even heard of the other two "lore" on this page, nor have most others, but the Drexel Shaft reigns above all other campus I agree with the previous poster. It was still called E4 when I graduated in 1998 (I was one of the 300 in 1993). I think the original ref has a typo - the renaming is likely 1998 not 1988; this page shows the entire program starting in 1988. I was a freshman in Drexel engineering in Fall 1997 term. It was called tDEC during that year. I cannot remember what was the first year; however, I am pretty sure those friends I had that were a year ahead of me knew it as tDEC in Fall 1996. Earlier than that, I cannot be sure. How about listing more of the degree programs and some school taditions. Also how about the cost of tuition/ financial aid recieved because that can be a detterant to many people.
