Requested move edit

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was moved Patstuarttalk|edits 01:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC) Draco (disambiguation)Draco — Most people searching for "Draco" are probably not going to be searching for the ancient Athenian lawgiver. It is more likely that they will be searching for the constellation or one of several fictional characters named Draco. The page "Draco (disambiguation)" should be moved to "Draco", and the page "Draco" (currently an article on the lawgiver) should be moved to "Draco (lawgiver)". Dr. Submillimeter 09:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Result of move discussion is to move DracoDraco (lawgiver) and move Draco (disambiguation)Draco. This is based on the search results supplied by the supporters and the lack of supporting evidence from the opposers for their position. —Doug Bell talk 09:50, 5 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. The lawgiver has lots of incoming links and is well-known by that name in English. --Akhilleus (talk) 23:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment - Many other terms are also well-known as "Draco" in English, as can be seen from a Google search (where the first non-Wikipedia mention of the lawgiver is the ninth item in the list). From an astronomy standpoint, I would say that the constellation is just as important as the lawgiver. Hence, placing the disambiguation page at "Draco" is more important than placing the lawgiver at "Draco". Dr. Submillimeter 07:25, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - I would suppose that Draco (source for the term Draconian), Draco (star pattern) and Draco (dragon) would be equal in search. 132.205.44.134 23:45, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • oppose clearly a disambiguation page is needed; see the number of entries on it. Hmains 17:30, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment - The deletion of the disambiguation page (or the merger of the disambiguation page into another page) is not the issue. The issue is whether the disambiguation page should be at Draco or Draco (disambiguation). Dr. Submillimeter 17:33, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Comment I thought all disambiguation pages are, or should be labeled, as such by their name. Where is the reference on naming such pages? Hmains 17:40, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Clearly there is no primary topic here. Vegaswikian 03:57, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per Dr. Submillimeter & Vegaswikian: there's no clear primary topic, and thus readers would be served best by being provided with the full array of possibilities. - Evv 18:18, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

  • Comment - Note the parallel discussion on Talk:Draco. Dr. Submillimeter 09:48, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Note to administration - The current article on Draco must be moved to another name for this move to work. If a majority of people decide to keep Draco at its current location, then this requested move should not be performed. Dr. Submillimeter 09:48, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - as these two are so closely linked, it would have been better to have one discussion covering both moves. -- Beardo 05:44, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - I did not look closely enough at WP:RM. I only read up to the nomination process for single pages; I did not see the multiple page move procedure at the bottom. I will use that procedure in the future. Dr. Submillimeter 07:28, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
