Character name

edit

Arthur C. Clarke named a mission Leonov to honour Aleksei Leonov. Similarly did he name the character Dr. Chandra to honour Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, who did work on black holes? Or is it possible that the character is named after Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman? --Gurubrahma 18:11, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

One alternative doesn't need to make another impossible. Maybe it's a reference to both men?Zeck 20:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know enough Hindi to confirm this, but ISTR that Chandrasegarampillai translates into English as something like "moon of Jupiter", and as such is a paranomastic reference to the books themselves. Grutness...wha? 01:00, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Novel

edit

Clark's book, 2001: A Space Odyssey, wasn't a novelization, it was written in conjunction with the film. (Link is to further details) Kovar 13:10, 9 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
