Talk:Downs Preparatory School

Thought I'd start this stub as I went there. Peter Lazarus, former racing driver and founder of the Martini glass collection, was headmaster at the time and put the fear of God into each and every one of us. ;-) --DavidP 22:27, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Notability and references edit

Banners have been placed on this article questioning its notability and asking for additional references. I have added the listed building paragraph with a reference but would welcome the views of others whether it meets the relevant notability guideline?— Rod talk 09:53, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

In its current presentation, this article does not meet Wikipedia criteria for inclusion. It is quite possible that the school may be notable for several reasons including, for example, having been attended by numerous notable people, having received very high national awards, etc. However, such notability, if asserted. must be proven in order to qualify for a Wikipedia article. Proof of notability must be demonstrated by providing reliable sources that can be verified. The requirements that must be fulfilled by all primary and middle schools are listed under the notability criteria for companies and organisations, and further explanation is provided in the instructions for building school articles. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:38, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your comment. Its probably best then to merge this article into Wraxall, Somerset leaving a redirect which can be changed later if appropriate. If no one objects in a few days I will do it.— Rod talk 07:42, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Another idea is to re-purpose the article, making it about the Grade II listed building Charlton House and mention the school in the context of the property. Given the number of short articles about listed properties in Bristol and Somerset I would say the article could stand alone on this basis. --Simple Bob a.k.a. We could do that although Grade II are not generally seen as being inherently notable in their own right (whereas G 1 & II* are & that's what most of the individual building articles are) unless there are other factors which aid notability - the school might work in that context, but it could also be famous residents, unusual architecture or something "famous" occurring at the site.— Rod talk 09:43, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
One other thing abour the Charlton House site is Charlton Farm (with its Grade II listed dairy and Grade II curtilege due to its proximity to the main house), which is home to Children's Hospice South West. However the hospice has no links with the school. As an aside, if you ever get the chance to visit CHSW, the buildings are fascinating (info). Hugo Weaving attended the school - widely document across the internet, but finding a reliable source is a challenge. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 10:14, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sounds fine to me. It would have to be Charlton House, Wraxall though as Charlton House already exists.— Rod talk 11:04, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Per your suggestion now redirects to new article Charlton House, Wraxall.— Rod talk 19:46, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
