Comments edit

  • Dominance section:
    • "with an old she-goat" perhaps "with a mature she-goat" as it doesn't make a ton of sense that an old goat would outlast a series of male goats..
      • Done.
    • jargon: "dominance to con-specifics" do we have something to link "con-specifics" to or another less jargony word to use?
      • Just means 'of own species'. Reworded.
  • When individuals seek section:
    • "Hierarchy results from interactions, group dynamics, and sharing of resources, so group size and composition affect the dominance decisions of high-ranking individuals and hierarchy type." ... I followed sentence until "and hierarchy type." I'm not sure what these three words are meant to say?
      • Removed as repetition.
  • Foraging sucess:
    • "Another benefit to high ranking individuals.." but this is the first benefit mentioned, perhaps "One benefit to.."?
      • Fixed.
  • Reproductive success section:
    • "In the monogynous bee species" ... link or explanation for "monogynous"?
      • Linked.
  • Mitigating the costs section:
    • "There is also the possibility that a subordinate individual who stays may become a high-ranking individual at a future time if the alpha male dies or is usurped." is unsourced.
      • Removed.
  • Conflict over dominance section:
    • "Red stags" - link to species?
      • Linked.
  • In eusocial animals section:
    • "eusocial mammals" link or explanation?
      • Linked.
    • "aggressive interactions between sexuals are common" link or explanation for "sexuals"?
      • Individuals that can reproduce; but it's not needed in the context.
    • "In general aggressive interactions are ritualistic.." I think a comma is needed after "general" here
      • Added.
    • "assumes a prostrated posture on the substrate" - link or explanation for "substrate"?
      • The ground, or whatever they are walking on. Removed.
    • "composition of the lipid layer present" link for lipid layer?
      • Linked.
    • "suggesting that advertising a false ranking status is a costly behavior, suppressed in these wasps." I'm not clear what "suppressed in these wasps" means here - does it mean that when the behavior happens it causes the individual doing it to lose status/rank?
      • Reworded.
    • "In the honey bee Apis mellifera, pheromone produced" - is it "a pheromone" or "pheromones"?
      • A pheromone.
    • "worker caste" link?
      • Linked.
    • links for "involve oophagy" and "immobilization of egg-layers"?
      • Linked and reworded.
  • Hormonal control section:
    • "In sub-dominant males, appears that lutenizing hormone and testosterone are suppressed while in females it appears that the suppression involves the entire suppression of the ovarian cycle." Is there an "it" missing before "appears" here?
      • Added.
  • Brain pathways section:
    • Links for "ventral" and "dorsolateral"?
      • Linked.
    • "In manipulations studies of this region" should this be "In manipulation studies of this region"?
      • Fixed.
  • Eusocial insects section:
    • link for "polygyny"?
      • Linked.
  • Spectrum of systems section:
    • "In the spectrum of systems that this creates are a few distinctive types of system." is very unclear. Perhaps "Across the spectrum of these systems there are a few distinctive types."?
      • Done.
  • Please check my copyedits - I tried to only do them when they are clearly not going to change the meaning but it is possible I was mistaken.
    • Seems ok!
  • I randomly googled three phrases and only turned up Wikipedia mirrors. Earwig's tool shows no sign of copyright violation.
    • Noted.
I've put the article on hold for seven days to allow folks to address the issues I've brought up. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, or here with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Have said "done", "linked", etc, for each item. Many thanks for the careful review. Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:01, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hopefully you didn't find it too picky. If so, please let me know, otherwise I'll probably end up reviewing a few more of your articles as they are informative and I end up learning something. Anyway, all these changes look good to me ... passing in a few. Ealdgyth (talk) 15:06, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
