Changes to Introduction edit

I made changes to the introduction part. Would that be sufficient for unfamiliar readers ? Rhariram (talk) 20:01, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would like to mention that though most of the Divya Desams are Thenkalai, it is no fair to leave out mention of Vadakalai temples.

Thiruvengadam is in modern andhra pradesh. no doubt. but traditionally thiruvengadam is kept in thondai nattu divya desam list (kanchipuram) only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.133.196.3 (talk) 07:59, 25 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Revision should not delete useful links edit

Wiki is a dynamic reference site not a fossilzed zone. The Wiki pages that come on top at the search engine are the one that have good content and also have an thriving organic interlink.

So inclusion of reliable external sources is key.

Kindly do not tamper with the same under some arbitrary interpretation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Padmavasantha (talkcontribs) 07:52, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup edit

Hi, I have started cleaning up this article which had many issues. It had issues like duplicate and Trivial listing, Neutral point of view etc. Suggest to add any info with valid citations. agasthyathepirate(talk) 07:16, 26 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

List based on Region edit

The classification under the section Regional split(removed now) had no basis.

  • The list is clumsy. It is not having any base point on which it is classified. Some categories are state names, some categories are City names, some other are region names which are non-existent now and some are district names. This can be Trivial list as per WP:SALAT
  • Divya prabhanda, which is the basis for Divyadesams, havn't classified those temples as per these regions. Few of those regions and their borders hadn't existed then and now, but may have existed during mid centuries(10-19 century).
  • NPOV needs to be considered here. It is obvious that majority of the temples exists in present day tamil nadu state, but it is also clear that many of them are spread over remaining India.
  • The user who is involved in the edit war is not providing any citations.

Eg: Thirukkadigai is placed under Chennai, but it is in Vellore District Tirukkoilur is placed under Tanjavur, but it is in Villupuram District and Tanjavur is a separate city and district appx. 200 KM apart.

The only way we can classify this is with present day geography which is already done in the Divya Desam#List of Deities in Divyadesams under location tag. The classification needs to be done based on current Country/State/district/place. The list which is under concern, had already been removed long back where an IP tried to re-enter this again and again. After few months I doubt the same IP User is using two more IPs to start edit war.

@Ssriram mt:/@Utcursch:/@Ms Sarah Welch:/@Edward321: Can you guys suggest? aggi007(talk) 09:03, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have been trying to reform the list - let me complete it in the next few weeks. The region wise split has many references. I would not like it to be added until the references are in place. As such region here is necessarily not a geographical region. These are set as Thondai Nattu Thirupathigal, Nadu nattu etc.Ssriram mt (talk) 13:44, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Aggi007: This article does not, but should mention and summarize the significance of Divya Desams to Sri Vaishnavism. These 108 temples are an essential part of that tradition. The list needs some work, a task that is in good hands of Ssriman mt. You may find some ideas in the following sources: 1, the list in 2 and 3. Though we avoid student theses, and even more so sources where the peer review process is unclear/lacking. Given the limited reliable sources on some subjects / topics such as this article, we must try to screen and do the best we can with the sources we are able to find. Chithra Madhavan's Vishnu Temples of South India: Tamil Nadu is a good source, her scholarship is RS. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 00:29, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Ssriram mt: Thanks. As in the one of the sources given by Ms Sarah Welch above, we can also include Vimana/Theertha info also, as these two are also very important for Srivaishnavism. Posture of the presiding deity may become too much detail. The existing table already have Presiding deity names. My suggestion would be adding those ancient region names/Vimana/Theertha as a part of existing list in a separate or existing column wherever appropriate. We can also reduce the too much detailed content under Notes/beliefs column. What do you say? aggi007(talk) 08:20, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
