Through correspondence with Larry Butler, the first years of the DAC can be defined more fully. There are no formal citations for this extract from an email, but it is worth including in Talk to let people know more about the beginning. Quoting Butler: "Initially, I moved into the Diorama - not as a squat - but with permission from the Learning Disability Centre (LDC) which had offices and treatment rooms on the first floor. I was representing PlaySpace Trust - a charity and training organisation I had founded with another collective. As a dramatherapist, I sometimes worked for LDC helping do assessment with children and teenagers with dyslexia and autism. PlaySpace was the first community arts group to house the building and establish an office base and rehearsal space for Match Box Theatre (Jon Keliehor performed with Matchbox) ... From 1975 to 76, PlaySpace invited - by word of mouth - other like-minded groups and individuals to join us; and we gradually filled the building with a motley group of artists, activists and therapists."
