Articles indicate that desflurane undergoes negligible metabolism, which is perhaps more correct than stating that this drug is not metabolized. This is of particular importance when considering hepatotoxicity. Njoku D et.al. state that desflurane undergoes biotransformation when exposed to hepatic cytochrome P450, rendering metabolites that can trigger immunologic hepatitis in patients; such a case is described by Berghaus et.al.
