Naming edit

IMO these should be de[partments not Departments, and I have moved them all. Now it Atlantida department not Atlantida Department, SqueakBox 01:14, July 29, 2005 (UTC)

why where they lowercased? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 20:48, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Because it is en el departamento de in the Spanish, and this seemed the closest to that. If it were en el Depatamento de it would be different. Which is why I think we should change them elsewhere, SqueakBox 21:21, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

spanish: ciudad de Mejico ; english': "New York City" not "new York city", "X County" not "X county". X Department is close to english use. Why look at spanish writing rules in english Wikipedia? Tobias Conradi (Talk) 04:09, 12 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

How is X Department closer to English use than X department, Tobias? Just because most countries do it that way may not necessarily be how Honduras does it. --Golbez 04:27, August 12, 2005 (UTC)

I am not sure English helps. I would say I am from the county of Bucks yet an American would say they are from Bucks County. We British also say the city of Manchester; Manchester City is the football club. I don't believe we need to follow the US example in this case when the Spanish, in Honduras, Guatemala, and I suspect elsewhere, say departamento de Atlántida and not Atlántida Departamento. I would argue we should change this everywhere in Spanish speaking Latin America, SqueakBox 02:10, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

  • so it is British vs US English? Source language is irrelevant in english WP. We would not use TJING-SU DEPARTMENT because the chinese have no lowercase. We would not use tBet dePartment for one department of Humbugtustan and Tari DEpartment for another of the same country, only because the two departments are populated by people with different local/official languages with different capitalization rules.
  • so at the and you vote for "department of Atlántida" with lowercase d?
  • in your Bucks example I see none with a style like X county, X city. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 15:25, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
"department of Atlántida" would seem to be preferred, and of course, if that phrase occurred at the start of a sentence (or alone in a name) it would be "Department of Atlántida". Also, your Chinese example is in error but I'm sure you won't care to hear why. (PS - it's because the chinese don't use Latin languages, so they don't have the word "DEPARTMENT" at all. Source language is not irrelevant. Period.) --Golbez 20:17, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

Two tables edit

It is not necessary to have a second table for a sort by population. The first table has table controls that a user can sort on each column... thus they can sort the first table by population with the table controls. Two tables is redundant. Rarelibra 21:01, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Departments or States? edit

I am confused.

Are the Departments of Honduras defined geographically, like the states of Mexico, or the Lands of Germany, or even the states in the United States?

When can one Department of Honduras exercise authority over another Department of Honduras?

Does the constitution of Honduras subscribe to any theory of jurisdiction when it comes to organizing its departments, and is the jurisdiction of one Department explicitly limited by a specific border or boundary with another?

If an individual (or his property) is taken into custody in one Department, is there a hearing before a magistrate (as one would expect in a civil code country) before he (or the thing he has an interest in) is extradited to another Department?

I think the main article could be improved by explaining when one Department can exercise jurisdiction over an individual or corporation doing business in the area of a particular Department, and when it is supposed to refrain from exercising that authority.216.99.201.180 (talk) 05:41, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
