While it is true that the name of this system is a registered trademark, its primacy within the aviation industry over a significant period of time gave it few competitors and made it nearly the generic archetype of its kind. For this reason, it is a notable milestone in the development of aeronautical navigation, which is why it is described here. Agateller (talk) 23:05, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
