editGreat work starting this. I'd like to offer the following comments:
- I suspect that the article should have a broader scope (or at least title), as the Senate inquiry is just the latest in what's been a long-running saga.
- Note also that the Senate inquiry can only make recommendations, which the government is free to reject.
- " The Chief of the Defence Force General Angus Campbell immediately disbanded 2 Squadron, Special Air Service Regiment" - the situation here is a bit unclear. While Campbell stated that he was going to do this, some later reports noted that the government had blocked him from doing so. I'd suggest looking into this issue further. It's a bit tricky to understand given that the Army doesn't seem to state what the structure of the SASR actually is.
- "In June 2024, Afghanistan War veterans" - I'd suggest being more specific here given that only some of the veterans called for this
- It might be worth expanding on the politics around this issue. The previous Coalition government adopted a policy of blocking most of Campbell's attempts to respond to the Brereton Report. The ALP opposition was concerned by this and has claimed to be wanting to move on the issue since it entered government, but there hasn't been many results to date. - Cheers! Definitely some stuff for me to chew over.
- I did find a YouTube video ([1]) that specifically covers Campbell and his DSC plus his DSC nomination form (including who nominated him and who signed off on it) has been leaked. I'm assuming these are largely referenceable given the form & video information is mostly unverifiable? Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 01:00, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- That doesn't look like a RS. There seems to be a fair bit of conspiracy theory type stuff about Campbell's medals for some reason, which is rather odd given that he's trying to hand back the medals he thinks he didn't deserve. This might related to the push back he received when he tried to have the war crimes findings in the Brereton Report taken seriously. It seems that a lot of ADF personnel and veterans are unhappy with the situation: on one hand, lots are upset that the Brereton Report hasn't led to more action against the SASR and/or relevant senior officers and on the other hand lots believe that the Brereton Report's findings were unjustified. - Yeah that's what I thought, I've been trawling through DHAAT reports and earlier defence honours committee reports and was able to back up some claims, but the very first award of the DSC, to David Hurley in '93, didn't even meet the criteria. I've dived deep on this, and might need some air soon. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 03:02, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
