Links edit

I just removed three (one recently added) links to online dating sites. To me, these links are not about dating, but rather facilitate online dating. Thus they should not be in the article per WP:SPAM. Thoughts? --Hansnesse 01:36, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do consider the fact that they could be very good examples of online dating, and hence in the context is part of this "about" dating. Mathmo 17:58, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Links to any of the thousands of sites that facilitate matchmaking, that provide no substantive context to the content of the article, are not appropriate. See WP - Not a List of Links. LarryLACa 00:46, 10 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
There is the context, provides an example. The most popular sites could be linked to as the best example, alternatively what would be even better is a site that reviews/links to multiple other sites. Either way, doesn't matter I guess if nobody is trying to put them in. Mathmo Talk 04:07, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
But not an example that is increasing understanding of dating systems, and by including one link you encourage the addition of more and more. Generally speaking these sorts of external links are not encouraged because they lead to low quality articles that become more about people linking to their favorite (or their own) service than about providing encyclopedic information. -- Siobhan Hansa 17:48, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The two blogs also seem to be against the letter and spirit of our external links guidelines. Are either of them "must read" material for anyone looking at dating systems (and I don't just mean anyone with an interest in online dating sites). -- Siobhan Hansa 17:48, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Isn't a Dating System Also a Method of Human Thought to Describe Time As It Relates to Life? edit

Doesn't a "Dating System" also refer to a human methodology or technique to describe the past, present and future as it relates to dates in time? Obviously the folks who created this entry aren't very familiar or experienced with archaeology, history, or human consciousness... Traditionally, this term more often applies to Absolute dating and Relative dating methods. Stevenmitchell (talk) 00:51, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I guess it does. I'm not sure I've ever thought of it by that phrase. Do you think a disambiguation hat note would cover it? -- SiobhanHansa 01:02, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
