Talk:Data Storage Technology

The reason for moving it was stated in the move summary. It's obvious that it's a generic term. It should be the title of an article describing a specific technology. Oicumayberight (talk) 14:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

With capital letters, Data Storage Technology is not a generic term. Confusion about the term should be addressed with an "other-uses" type note at the top of the page.
The new name you gave the original page, Data Storage Technology (DST), doesn't make sense. Parens are not used for abbreviations of the name, because all uses of the same name/term would have the same abbreviation. Regardless, the page move was unwarranted because there are no other uses of the exact same name. When something else is named Data Storage Technology, then we can address the issue of determining which one needs a parenthetical disambiguation. -- Austin Murphy (talk) 15:14, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

That is just a google search on "data storage technology" with the results about ampex removed. None of the first 100 entries had anything to do with a specific product name. They are all about the general concept. In Wikipedia, a page on that topic would be named with lower case letters. It appears that you created just such a page. -- Austin Murphy (talk) 22:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Point taken. I should have originally did the lowercase version instead of renaming this page. Oicumayberight (talk) 23:15, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
