IDE motherboard Interface?

edit

What is the IEE standard for 11-pin interface on the motherboard? I have checked my DVD players, one has 9-pin, & the other a 10-pin interface. Seems to be perpreitary IDE interface for programming, but would like further information on it. Thank You.

MP3 DVD

edit

Could anyone help me by informing how to copy lots of MP3 songs in a DVD and make it play on a DVD Player (viz. Sony, LG, etc..)

I have copied the MP3 files using the COPY DATA mode on PC, but this DVD did not play on the Sony DVD player. Narayan.shanbhag 14:21, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

"A DVD player is a device that plays discs produced under both [emphasis mine] the DVD Video and [emphasis mine] DVD Audio technical standards, two different and incompatible standards."

A disc cannot be produced under both standards if they are incompatible. I think it was meant to say "either"; specifically:

"A DVD player is a device that plays discs produced under either [emphasis mine] the DVD Video or [emphasis mine] DVD Audio technical standards, two different and incompatible standards."

I've changed the article to the second version, change it back if I'm wrong - with an explanation here, please. - Xandercorp 18:39, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sources?

edit

The article has no sources list at all. Listing something like the $20 license fee without citations is really bad.

And invented 1822?  :)

Error-correction and/or dirty DVD-media

edit

I'm finding large differences in the quality of the error-handling of players, in the presence of known dirt and/or scratches on e.g. a movie-DVD. [I've got a Pioneer player which is crap, in that it bounces out totally on such errors (and doesn't seem to remember where you were, so then when you press play/continue, it restarts at the BEGINNING of the movie). In contrast, I've got a Sony player which just pauses a lot when hitting the SAME scratches on the SAME movie-DVD, but it hangs in there after some jerks and pauses, so you never lose you place in the movie, so I LIKE that error-behavior MUCH better. [The Sony is also capable of saying '<Error-code> The disk is dirty' on another movie-DVD, which prevents you from showing it. I don't have a disk-cleaner, so I don't know if that could fix the issue.]

That said, don't consider this a recommendation, in general, of one brand over another, as your experience may differ WIDELY from mine, based on exact models, etc, etc.

What I'd like to see discussed (somewhere) is whether firmware in any of these DVD-players is ever upgradable (e.g. like it is on most all $50 wifi-routers!)

Also, I'd like some discussion on whether dirt and/or scratches can be lessened or eliminated using any of the various DVD-MEDIA-cleaners. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarasotaslim (talkcontribs) 18:11, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Clean up and modernization of article

edit

The article needs to be cleaned up and some of the language made more current. I did a little of this work in a series of edits:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=DVD_player&type=revision&diff=927920449&oldid=927535845

Those edits were reverted without explanation. I don't care whether it's cleaned up in those diffs or through other edits, but the article is growing out of date.

Also, reverts should include a "valid and informative explanation including, if possible, a link to the Wikipedia principle you believe justifies the reversion." WP:REVEXP

@Infoman99: Thanks for trying to help. So, as soon as I read "Early players usually outputted" I had a gag reflex. A lot of people already have a problem with turning the noun "output" into a verb, but then to write "outputted" I didn't bother to read further. The fact that you changed a {{when}} to another problem time statement without bounding it is another problem.
Please read WP:RS and use reliable sources for any content you're changing. I'll try to just fix your grammar rather than revert everything going forward. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:26, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Walter Görlitz: I hear you. The problem is that the material is sufficiently out of date to make it effectively wrong, and at the moment I don't feel like spending 20 minutes digging up sources.
The current article is unsourced, except for two minor cites at the end.
WP:RS and WP:VERIFY require inline citations only for "material challenged or likely to be challenged, and for all quotations." If you believe the material I changed is wrong, you're of course free to challenge particular statements.
Also, while I don't care much about any particular word, "output" as a verb is accepted by the Collins unabridged, wiktionary, Lexico - Oxford Dictionaries, and American Heritage, among others, along with its past tense. Infoman99 (talk) 19:56, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you're fixing it, fix if. If you're doing what you did, you're not improving it. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:16, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Again, citations are not required by WP:RS except in the particular circumstances mentioned in the quoted material from the guideline. I'm updating the material. If you'd like to challenge a particular statement in the update, because you have a good faith belief that a specific assertion is incorrect, of course please feel free to do so. Infoman99 (talk) 20:26, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
No, they're required by WP:V and if content is challenged, it definitely is. Don't restore your poor-quality edit again, but feel free to correctly add content. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:37, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Walter Görlitz: Your posting to my personal talk page violates the guidance of the WP:EDITWAR policy: "Avoid posting a generic warning template if you are actively involved in the edit war yourself".

As you have failed to abide by the quoted citations from WP:RS and WP:VERIFY, your complete reverts are increasingly concerning. If you have a good faith basis to question particular updated statements, please feel free to do so. Infoman99 (talk) 20:46, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

WP:V makes it clear it's up to you to provide sources and since you're in an actual edit war, it's even more concerning. Since you're not willing to change your problem edits, simply restore them, I have provided all of my rationale above, including making up words, and your actions have been reported. We'll let an admin decide. Cheers. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:59, 25 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
