Why is manipulation of a "T13" nerve listed? There are only 12 thoracic spinal nerves in humans... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.80.64.90 (talk) 17:47, 17 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Possible Error under Treatment Section?

Treatment

Initial treatment is with adequate hydration, acidification of the urine with citrate supplementation, and dietary modification to reduce salt and protein intake (especially methionine). If this fails then patients are usually started on chelation therapy with an agent such as penicillamine.

Other resources (First Aid 2012 and UpToDate) say that treatment involves alkalinization (and not acidification, as mentioned above) of the urine. This is because cystine is more soluble in urine with higher pH.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I converted that to properly reflect the cited articles as well as what you mentioned, and threw in the normal treatment with acetazolamide. EarthRise33 (talk) 22:00, 25 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

CystEINE vs cystINE

edit

The reabsorption of which of the two is impaired?

"These defects prevent proper reabsorption of basic, or positively charged, amino acids: lysine, ornithine, arginine.[2] Under normal circumstances, this protein allows certain amino acids, including cystEINE..."

vs

"Cystinuria is characterized by the inadequate reabsorption of cystINE".

Since other aminoacids listed as transported by these transporters have multiple nitrogens, and many texts have the word "dibasic" in them, I tend to lean towards cystINE.--Bstard12 (talk) 21:44, 15 January 2015 (UTC) I agree, I came here to make the same comment. Many texts are confusing on this issue, but Cystine and CystEine are different chemicals. Cystine is two disuplhide bonded Cysteine molecules. Since nobody has responded to your comment, I will now corret the text to use Cystine throughout. Leopardtail (talk) 13:32, 21 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
