Necessity

edit

Is this article even necessary? Faraji is intense, yes, but hasn't broken any records yet and is far from most landmasses. JoeMT615 (talk) 00:25, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this is an extremely unnecessary article, severe particularly intense cyclones in the SWIO don’t get articles.DachshundLover82 (talk) 01:34, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Destroyeraa: and @LightandDark2000:, this article should be moved back to draftspace until any notability is evident. Several Category 5 SWIO storms such as Cyclone Bansi and Cyclone Bruce didn’t get articles.DachshundLover82 (talk) 01:40, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

need to moved in the draftspace . since the article is not ready HurricaneEdgar 01:52, 9 February 2021 (UTC).Reply

Would say that arguing that other storms lack articles is basically WP:OSE, but so far as I can tell models keep Faraji away from land and I think it would be easy to summarise the MH in the season article. However, WP:CRYSTALBALL, let us wait for the storm to dissipate. JavaHurricane 02:33, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also I think that the draftification was not needed. I'd rather wait for the storm to dissipate before starting a merge discussion. JavaHurricane 02:41, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Destroyeraa: and @LightandDark2000: Faraji is notable for a couple reasons. Mainly in the fact that it's the only VITC (Very Intense Tropical Cyclone) ever recorded in the month of February, and by far one of the earliest February Category 5 storms on record. VantaWiki (talk) 04:14, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

VantaWiki, all tropical cyclones usually get enough coverage to pass WP:GNG. What really matters however is if there's enough material to write a full-length separate article on the storm; otherwise only a summary in the season article suffices. Evidently Faraji doesn't have that much material yet. I'd wait for the storm to dissipate before going forward with a merge discussion, however. JavaHurricane 04:35, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@DachshundLover82: As far as I know, all Category 5-equivalent storms in the Atl and EPAC receive articles. Faraji is notable for its sheer strength as the only VITC in February. I found a bit of preps info. I think this has enough coverage to pass WP:GNG as JavaHurricane said above. ~ Destroyeraa🌀🇺🇸 13:32, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Destroyeraa, every Atlantic Category 5 hurricane has affected land; and most Eastern Pacific Category 5 hurricanes either affect land or last long enough to have enough information on them for full length articles. I can think of a full length article here likewise but it would primarily be a meteorological history, one that could be also well-summarised in the season article. I'm not really opposed to a full article, it may very well prove that a full article would be warranted down the line: hence my WP:CRYSTALBALL reticence. For now I think the status quo is good enough. JavaHurricane 15:08, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Destroyeraa:, but all of the Category 5s in the Atlantic and EPAC threaten land in some way. The SWIO is different because there is significantly less land. Also, the preparations section seems a bit off. Maybe find more sources supporting threats to land. The only notable thing is the VITC in February fact, other than that it isn’t notable. It is very common for VITCs to form over the open waters of the SWIO with little threat to land.DachshundLover82 (talk) 14:06, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@JavaHurricane and DachshundLover82: Genevieve 2014 and Hurricane Celia (2010) and Hurricane Ava and Hurricane Elida (2002) and Hurricane Hernan (2002) and several more have articles. ~ Destroyeraa🌀🇺🇸 15:46, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Destroyeraa: Genevieve was a historic cross-over. Hernan and Elida caused light impacts. While Celia and Ava broke records. That’s why they have articles.DachshundLover82 (talk) 16:19, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Even at that Celia and Ava both caused impacts.DachshundLover82 (talk) 16:21, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@DachshundLover82: You win. I'm going to redirect Faraji. ~ Destroyeraa🌀🇺🇸 17:35, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
