Metabolism

edit

"In the cryptobiotic state, all metabolic procedures stop ..."; "While in this state its metabolism lowers to less than 0.01% of what is normal ...". Which is it?

Also, the tardigrade article says "Recent experiments conducted by Cai and Zabder have also shown that these water bears can undergo chemobiosis - a cryptobiotic response to high levels of environmental toxins. However, their results have yet to be verified". Perhaps some acknowledgement of this unverifiedness should be noted, rather than making the blanket statement that tardigrades "can undergo all five types of cryptobiosis". 24.159.255.29 05:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tardigrades

edit

"The most commonly known organism which undergoes cryptobiosis is the tardigrade, or water bear."

I've NEVER heard of a "tardigrade" but we all know sea-monkeys... I'm going to change it to something like "one of the most notable", its notability being due to its ability to achieve all known states of cryptobiosis. Any objections? 66.167.144.69 21:56, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notostraca

edit

Shouldn't the Cryptobiosis article mention Notostraca, and vice versa? – kentyman (talk) 21:27, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

The 4th reference "Illinois Wesleyan University" is quite ambiguous, is this university specialized in studying Tardigrades or what? - DukeTwicep (talk) 13:50, 3 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Forms of cryptobiosis

edit

Are these forms really 5 different formes of cryptobiosis? or is it actually 1 mechanism which causes survival in different extreme situations? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.50.29.241 (talk) 10:03, 2 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
