Talk:Compukit UK101

I'm confused on how adding a PIA (6521) and a sound chip (AY-3-89xx) would give a computer "VOICE". I know audio channels are sometimes referred to as a "voice" but if I were going for that nomenclature, I would have said "given the computer multiple voices".

I've asked the guy who maintains the UK101 home page for more and better photos. In the meantime, here's a phonecam pic from Hirez :-D - David Gerard (talk) 17:38, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Should it not be added to the article something about the fact that upgrades mostly had to be designed and built and added by hand by the owner? and that cases were available but not supplied by the kit as standard. (You should see my dads uk101 with so many extra boards, mostly on stripboard in his case lol since he couldn't afford to have PCB's printed and etched at the time, that it just don't fit in the case he bought for it anymore) 79.76.216.80 (talk) 22:22, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Comp did supply a cream coloured plastic case for the UK101, but it did not hold much in the way of extra bits.

I also designed a memory expansion for the UK101. Mine used 16 4116 dynamic RAM chips. Officially the 6502 cannot interface with dynamic RAM because of its inability to tri-state its data bus. In those days, I loved a challenge like that so I went ahead, did the impossible, and interfaced the chips giving me 32k of memory. DieSwartzPunkt (talk) 16:56, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Just wanted to add this was the first micro computer I ever saw. In senior school in 1979 approx. Cream plastic case. Flickery TV picture. Our teacher - the computer geek - owned it and used it in school to set maths quizzes on the screen.
