Under the slogans section is the slogan "We Had It, We Lost It" which I don't believe to be accurate but I thought I'd post here just for clarification.

You know what? You're absolutely right, and you didn't have to engage in the sarcasm and mockery to get the point across. I re-checked the website, verified your data, and it's good. NOW, you seriously need to tone down the combativeness. ps. Register an account! Because of all the recent vandalism, (yes, there HAS been deliberate vandalism of this article, mostly by disgruntled employees who feel as though Carlos Slim and Roman Ross have left them out in the wind!) ALL unregistered and new account changes to this article are being called to question. That's NOT to say that there aren't good edits (like yours, again I eat crow!) coming in, however the bad edits are outnumbering the good on this one as of late.

Added closures to timeline

I've worked for them for two years and we just got a company e-mail on Thursday, August 3rd, that announced that 15 more stores are being closed all across the country, including a bunch in the state I live.

They're definitely closing stores in California. I was driving by a local CompUSA in San Jose this afternoon and saw a "Total Liquidation Blowout" banner on top of it. I went in because I'm planning to get some more computer stuff soon. The people working there looked quite glum. I don't know what's happening in Texas, but in California, there are too many electronics/computer stores in Silicon Valley; we have a lot of Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, and Circuit City stores. --Coolcaesar 04:59, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I actually just quit CompUSA after two years. I'm not working for them anymore. I've had it. Their management sucks, their methods leave much to be desired, and they're losing workers (not to mention loads of cash) by the dozen. I live in San Jose, too, just down the street from the now-defunct Steven's Creek location. To be honest, I don't think the company will be alive much longer. The death of the Network for Business program is yet another sign that CompUSA is a fledgling company. I am GLAD to get out, lemme tell you.

Removed Carlos Slim in article

Removed "After months of bad news from CompUSA, Carlos Slim visits the CompUSA headquarters for nearly a month, revamping nearly the entire upper level management team, and setting new guidelines for the store to follow." It was edited to state that he visited the corporate headquarters and helped remove Tony Weiss. 126 Store Closings

I have corrected the closings info for this article. The closing stores' inventory has NOT been purchased by Gordon Brothers, CompUSA has instead elected to retain the inventory while Gordon Brothers acts as liquidation facilitator. Edit Centric 00:52, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I realize it's a quote from the CEO, but "... need to close and sell stores with low performance or non strategic, old store layouts and locations faced with market saturation" is pure, corporate BS. They opened a ground-up store in Oak Brook, Ill. last year and closed it just before the rest of the Illinois stores were all placed on the liquidation block. This ground-up store replaced an older, run-down location not even a mile away -- there's no way the new location was closed because of market saturation. If that was the case, how could it have been approved and constructed? Rather, it seems the CEO quote is a smoke and mirrors statement that really says "we can't compete."--Chriseaves 20:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Looks like I guessed right on 9/11/07. When the Wiz closed entirely in 2003, everyone, including their long-time employees, were out on their ass. No severance packages of any kind, last I heard. As far as I'm hearing, no word has come down from corporate as far as severence, timetables for layoffs, etc. Things are still running as normal as of this weekend (to include ad sets), but basic operations will more than likely change hands beginning early next week. - Effedup (talk) 00:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
As a person who works at CompUSA, I know that employee purchases end this Tuesday, liquidation starts after the holidays (which ends January 1st in CompUSA's eyes). Impact of "Fry's Electronics" on "CompUSA"

I didn't see this mentioned but I know for a fact that Fry's Electronics devastated a number of CompUSA locations around the country. One CompUSA in CA that was completely swamped on the weekends, became a ghost-town when a Fry's Electronics opened nearby. One of the problems with CompUSA was the horrible customer service. If they had maintained a strong customer service before Fry's Electronics opened locations nationwide, they would have been able to maintain a portion of their customer base. I recall that anytime I placed a call to get a hold of ANYONE at a CompUSA store, NO ONE would EVER answer. The phones would either just ring and ring or go to voicemail. Contrast that with Fry's Electronics excellent customer service and low prices, I saw the demise of CompUSA years ago. I've never had a real problem with CompUSA as a customer. I've read about customer complaints in Reselleratings.com on their store. But I've never had any bad experience with them. I had a CRT monitor back in the day, which was broken, and they replaced it with no problems. Their reps were very nice and helpful. They also had a service where they clean the dust inside your computer. The only thing that was annoying was that their technicians kept bugging me about switching to AOL when I was trying to get my computer fixed (a USB cord was stuck to a USB port). I already had AOL dial-up back then. This was way before I got broadband. We have a Best Buy and Circuit City nearby but I only buy DVDs, video games, ITunes card, and some electronic equipment (HDTV, digital camcorder, and digital camera). I build my own gaming computers. We don't have a Fry near where we live. But I don't think I'll do any online business with them. Even though CompUSA has low ratings at Resellerratings.com, Fry's also has low ratings. The only online Computer stores I'm doing business with is Newegg, Performance-PCS, and Crazy PC. --Pilot expert 01:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Updated "Slogans" Section

Changed ""We got it. We get it." (July 2005 - present)" to "We got it. We get it." (July 2005 - Sept 2006)". Sept 2006 is when the "We got it. We get it." tag was removed from the website. Since then, all business cards, bags, and other materials have been produced with the CompUSA logo, but without a tagline of any sort. Verification can be seen on the Internet Archive. That will continue to be the case since it would be prohibitively expensive to destroy and replace everything with the "WGI" logo on it. Case in point: I work at the Corporate Office (in Store Planning AKA the "Store Presentation" team) and have (old) business cards with the very old "The Technology Superstore" slogan on it. Had my title and other info not changed, I'd still be using those. Officially though, "We got it!" is no longer the slogan and tag-line slogans in general have fallen into disuse to prevent this very issue from cropping up in the future. All stores closing

I am a CompUSA employee and yes all stores are closing. All Apple products will still be serviced by apple, but nothing has been said one way or the other about the "TAP" plans that have been sold. As of Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 all CompUSA will be under Gordan Brothers control. Please remember that all sales will be final. At my store Liquidators and Extra security are on site already. I don't think there's been any real change in operations at this point, outside of much higher traffic flow as people scramble to get parts and upgrades before they're picked clean. Liquidation sales started on Wednesday, folks. Here's the track record, for all current employees who are wondering; Our (Modesto) sale started on 01 March, 2007. The store closed on 14 May. The clean-up and securing of the building (final exodus) was done, and the space was shuttered on 18 May, 2007. That's 2 and 1/2 months, and from what our liquidator told us,

The actual remaining stores will be starting their liquidations around the week of December 9 until December 15. Yet most managers of these remaning stores had ask some of their Team Members to place tags on Wenesday. There is still no accurate information but this is coming directly from the stores. Why is this article protected?

CompUSA will close

According to a CNN Money article posted on December 7th, all CompUSA stores will be closed.

Umm Trainer4, yes it's true. I was just down to the Fresno store and spoke to the guy from Gordon Brothers yesterday. Both the C-Net and CNN articles were posted as of the 7th of this month. Hate to tell you this, but we saw it coming down the pipe last May, when MY store in Modesto closed. (I was the ICC/Loss Prevention for that store.) It was while driving the liquidator to the airport that we discussed this, he hinted that it "wasn't over yet".

Doing some further research and checking, there IS the possibility that a few stores will be sold, instead of closing. Does this mean that they will still bear the CompUSA name? Okay, but that has nothing to do with the PREVIOUS round of closures, which that section refers to. The business journal article is speaking to the CURRENT company-wide wind-down. As for the Deerfield Beach store closing, almost ALL remaining stores are closing, so I think we'd be better served to just wait until this whole thing pans out, and see what becomes of CompUSA... No prob, just need to place the info in the appropriate section of the article, that's all. As to the "150", I don't know about that figure. CompUSA currently has 17 stores in Florida. If you figure that each store has about 5 managers, at least 3 warehouse people, at least 1 merchandiser, 6 cashiers, (this is starting to sound like the 12 days of Christmas!) three techs, 2 service writers and at least 10 floor sales people, you're looking at about 27 to 30 people per store, or at least 510 people throughout all of the Florida stores. If ALL 17 stores end up closing, I'll bet ANYONE a free lunch that there will be a LOT more than 150 people going from CompUSA to the state unemployment rolls... 2) Cannot be sourced. Again, WP:NOR.
3) Is a personal opinion, editorial, rant or vent against the company, its owner(s) or its management. This type of edit will be considered sheer vandalism, and will get you banned, PERIOD. There is more than enough evidence of recent vandalism to this article by disgruntled employees to back this last point up. Aside from that, it's a violation of WP:POV.

Our main focus here should be preserving the encyclopedic integrity of the article, as the subject of which progresses through it's closing stages. Previous closings section, macro-edit

Looking through the entire article, it seems to me that the section dealing with the initial round of closures is a bit inflated. Do we REALLY need to name most of the store locations that were closed, especially since the REST of them will be closing soon? Look at the Egghead Software article, for instance. Granted, CompUSA is a bit larger, however is destined to follow the same route. What I'm proposing is that we SUMMARIZE the section, and re-work it once the rest of the stores are gone... Absolutely! For one, it would eliminate the mini-pi&^ing-contests over such minutia like how many stores there are in an area. (Again, I apologise for that, I missed one listing when I was looking through the corp website, may have had something to do with the fact that I also had a four-yr-old tugging at my sleeve, begging to play with her train set...) Another concern is getting this article up to at least GA status, and keeping it there, while still being informative, yet avoiding conflicts with WP:NOT#INDISCRIMINATE. It's a balancing act, I know. Incorrect closure dates (or poor wording)

The article incorrectly states that "The liquidation process was completed on May 14, 2007, and all stores were completely shuttered by the following Friday." I know FOR A FACT that this date is incorrect because I purchased items from my local CompUSA retail store as late as DECEMBER 2007! Pardon me, Trainer4? It's not that it's poor wording (I wrote it!), the problem is that when that section was written, the remaining stores were still assumed to be staying open. Now the section needs to be re-tooled a bit, to bring it in line with the current situation. When read in the proper context, it works. The problem is that the context doesn't fit anymore. One of the items that perhaps got overlooked was Systemax's plan to integrate the remaining stores into it's TigerDirect brand operations. We need to dig up some more info on that, as it could affect some changes in the way the article is written... Edit Centric (talk) 01:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The plan, according to an article in PC Retailer=[3]the plan is to keep the CompUSA brand for the existing 16 stores, and rebrand its 11 TigerDirect stores plus three under construction, as CompUSA; so in that sense, it could be said that Systemax will integrate its TigerDirect brand into CompUSA, rather than CompUSA into TigerDirect; but, perhaps it's a matter of semantics . . .

Online Only Retailer

No CompUSA Sores Were Sold After Bankruptcy of Comp USA They Were Sided by the creditors and/or banks Comp USA Has Ben Reduced To An Online Only Retailer. So I Do not know how to label it int the info box i was thinning 'fate = bankruptcy' but the company did not go defunct they just reduced locations to online and HQ only similar to K-mart's recent bankruptcy and then i thought 'fate= Cloure Of Retail Locations Due to Bankruptcy' Dose this Solve this issue? No longer connected to TigerDirect

Totally missing is the fact that CompUSA has terminated its relations NOW (2009/2010) with CompUSA. Though the three TigerDirect stores that were rebranded CompUSA remain CU stores now, the partnership has ended. Purchases made at one are nolonger serviceable by the other. Wrong. Where is your proof for this? I was just in a CompUSA today and they are still connected to Tigerdirect. Tigerdirect still promotes CompUSA on their page for gods sake! Enemy2k (talk) 17:08, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
