Merger proposal

I propose that Colocolo be merged into Pampas cat. These two articles describe the same species in different ways. Quetzal1964 (talk) 16:43, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

The species status of these cats is fluid. It was proposed to split the Pampas cat into three separate species on morphological grounds. This was followed in MSW3 and in Wikipedia. But molecular evidence didn't support the split and recent assessments have considered them to be one species (IUCN CatSG, ASM), which has led to recent changes in the wikipedia articles. However the assessments noted that this might change as there are distinct biogeographic groups, it's just that the morphological and molecular analyses give different results. If merged we could find they need to be split again. They are dividing other small South American cats into more species.

I'm not for or against the merger, though. The articles do need some work for clarity and consistency on the species.   Jts1882 | talk  17:04, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

I support the idea to merge them together because they are almost the same species, except the Colocolo has spots, but that's it, once I edited the cat section and included Colocolo in it, but it got undone by a person. Merging the 2 species together would just make it less confusing in my opinion.Audi1merc2 (talk) 16:40, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
