At the time of the Peninsular War the Spaniard military cockade on cocked hats and shakoos was still the traditional Spaniard red cockade. The cockade's loop could be yellow or white depending on the regimental button (that is, a coat with yellow buttons entailed a yellow loop for the cocked hat's cockade).This red cockade was still used on the shakoo by the Liberal regulars in the 1st Carlist War (1833-40), so that my guess is that the Spaniard Army didn't use the red and yellow cockade -the so-called 'National Cockade'- up to late 1843. In 1808-14, ironically, a sort of red and yellow cockade was used by the pro-French units raised by king Joseph I of Bonaparte.
It's me again. In 1843 the red cockade was abolished, re-established in 1844 and abolished once again in 1871 in favour of the red-&yellow-&red cockade, this time seems that once & for all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.142.175.22 (talk) 10:23, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
