Disputed scope and early naming edit

The article states that Clarksville was "known as Dartmouth College Grant until 1872". This does not appear to be accurate. My review of four different 1854 and 1855 maps by Colton, Dodge, Johnson and Robinson reveal it was called Clarksville, with the same approximate footprint as in 1892 maps. However, the Guernsey map of 1872 (in the 1874 NH Gazzetteer) shows a small "Dartmouth College Grant" to the east of a "Clarksville" (which is shown smaller than today; having the same eastern line as Stewartstown). Although the Gazzetteer entry for the township discloses an initial grant of only 18,900 acres (29 sq mi), it makes no mention of any prior name. Over 100 other town entries mention prior names. If a source for the current statement of 1872 Clarksville naming is not provided, I will modify it to conform with the maps and the 1874 Gazzetteer information, i.e., "later annexed one of the Dartmouth College Grants". The information about the name "Dartmouth College Grant" comes from the New Hampshire Economic and Labor Market Information Bureau Profile for Clarksville (see External Links) - "It was also known as Dartmouth College Grant until 1872." The NHES pages have been wrong before, and may be wrong again. Biederman 19:59, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
