Split

The disambiguation policy says that there should be no content on this page but links. This page attempts to do more than that for each entry. Plus, many of these entries would benefit from space for their own articles. -- cmh 13:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Support. When I first saw the article it looked liked a disambiguation page to me. It would be better if the content were removed to a separate page and this was just a disambiguation page.

Support. I have to agree, this really should be split into separate articles.

Support. I agree. Also, I found it confusing that Cis (the word) and CIS (the acronym) has separate disambiguation pages. I typed in one, expecting the other, and for a while thought there was nothing in Wikipedia about it. One disambiguation page with just links for both Cis and CIS would have sutied me better.

Support.I agree re creating disambiguation page, but would like to interject that this (as well as ALL words, but most importantly non-commmonly-used ones) include a PRONUNCIATION after the word. I still am not sure how to pronounce the latin "cis".

Oppose. 'Trans' and 'cis' are simple Latin terms, that only in a particular context receive a more specific meaning. Thus the first part of the article must remain together to explain the general meaning, and show the specific fields of interest as examples [but in case one of the specific uses requires more than a short paragraph, the details would go to a separate article – as done now for genetical binding: "(see Cis-acting)"]. This Latin-based meaning is the most common one and should keep the name "Trans", respectively "Cis" and mention at the top 'For other meanings, see Trans (disambiguation)', respectively 'For other meanings, see Cis (disambiguation)'. The second part however should go into a "Trans (disambiguation)" page that shortly mentions the Latin term and the non-Latin terms and links to the separate articles. This is also the case for "Cis (disambiguation)" which should include the CIS acronym disambiguation. In other words, you can see this as a Support as far as one keeps the 'Latin trans = on opposite sides' derivate terms in a single article (and for cis the 'Latin cis = on the same side' derivate terms), which would only if needed to keep that article sufficiently short and comprehensible, link towards a specific separate page. — Though after modifying the layout so as to match the anthonym 'Trans', I do not think splitting will really be required. — SomeHuman 1 Dec2006 10:24 (UTC)
