There are some points that certainly need addressing:

• The lede is supposed to summarise the contents of the wider article. This lede doesn't do that; rather it gives the reader information that then does not appear at all in the main body. Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• When mentioning Fidel Castro, we need a link and also a mention of who he is/was. Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• "liberation theology" and then "Liberation Theology". Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Also very problematic is the sparse use of referencing:

• The second sentence in "Antecedents" is un-referenced. Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• It looks like the first two sentences in "Leaders" are similarly un-referenced. Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• There is a "citation needed" tag in "Suppression". Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• Once again, there is unreferenced material in "Gatherings". Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• The entirety of "Present day" is unreferenced. Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
• The references that are used are in a jumble of different formats; that requires a level of standardisation. Midnightblueowl (talk) 19:28, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I think that the problems that this article currently faces are too significant for the article to be passed at this time, even with some minor revisions. However, I hope that that does not discourage the nominator and that they are able to act on the suggestions put forth here so that the article can be improved (and hopefully expanded) and then re-nominated at GAN at a later date.
