What was the legislative action that created the CMSAF in 1967?

According to the online article found July 20, 2018 at AF.mil News - Celebrating 50 years of the CMSAF:

“ In the early 1960s, Congressman Mendel Rivers issued a bill that mandated the appointment of senior enlisted advisers for all services. Though the bill wasn’t passed, Air Force senior leaders decided to create the CMSAF position.

Then-CSAF Gen. John P. McConnell announced the position in 1967 and explained its criteria and duties, “The man selected to fill this job will be used as a representative of the Airman force when and where this is appropriate, and will serve as a sounding board for ideas and proposals affecting Airman matters.”

Term dates

For CMSAF 17 I am using the start of office date as 1 Feb 2013 as his predecessor is due to retire on 31 Jan. I know the ceremony happens on the 24th of Jan 2013 - but the rest of the list seems to run to end of a calendar month so this is probably the right way to do it IMO. Good Morning Chief Master Sergeant Kaleth O. Wright

The Air Force is changing the dress uniform and I strongly recommend that they bring back SERVICE STRIPES. The Air Force had them when I was on active duty 1954-1958. All the other armed forces have them and they should be RETURNED TO THE ENLISTED. I also served in the Air Force Reserve for a total of 40 years and 10 days. The Air Force is the BEST and I am proud to have served.

Hash marks - Service Stripes

Recommend that hash marks (service stripes) be added to the Class A Air Force uniforms. Time to get the back. All other services have them except us.

James McCoy

The page incorrectly lists CMSAF James M. McCoy as having served 1 year, 364 days. Since he served from 1 August 1979 to 31 July 1981 and 1980 was a leap year, it should credit him with 1 year, 365 days. This likely affects multiple other Chiefs, but his was simple to spot since it's 1 day shy of 2 years. Jpmorr01 (talk) 22:49, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
