ACP Tour qualifier edit

Currently the page says 4 presidential nominees but in the regulations there are only 3 presidential nominees and 1 player from the 2022 ACP Tour. Also I couldn't find the 2022 ACP Tour standings anywhere, so please help. Dev Darshan T. K. (talk) 05:06, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Right. It appears the 2022 Tour didn't happen at all (like the previous two, though I couldn't find a source directly stating that), and if that is the case, and according to the regulations the spot would go to an aditional PN A3811 (talk) 07:29, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sergey Karjakin edit

Now obviously Wikipedia isn't a crystal ball and we shouldn't predict, but considering Karjakin's ban was 6 months he should be eligible to play in this tournament. Has there been any indication that FIDE may reinstate the ban until he withdraws his remarks? Couruu (talk) 09:03, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sort by rating edit

Hi, within the next month we are excpecting most of the remaining qualifiers to be announced. DOes anyone know if there's a way to sort all the qualifiers by rating, rather than enter each one manually in a different place? A3811 (talk) 15:50, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Prize money edit

I fail to understand the table of prize money.

  • One source says that the prize money for Round 1 has been increased from $3000 to $3750.
  • Look at (say) the competitor who comes fourth overall. Assume they get a bye in the first round. Then it looks like they will get a total of $92,000 for winning their matches in Rounds 2 to 6, and then a further $50,000 for fourth place, despite not winning any further matches after Round 6. Is that right? If I have double-counted somewhere, then the figure for the total prize money will also have been double-counted.

Ehrenkater (talk) 11:58, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

4th place wins only $50,000. "round" means which round the player was eliminated, just like in the 2021 page A3811 (talk) 11:05, 28 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Uganda representative edit

The source mentioned (Uganda Chess Federation) says that FM Haruna Nsubuga is the Ugandan representative but the preliminary list of qualifiers says it's FM Okas Walter. Any thoughts? Dev Darshan T. K. (talk) 06:55, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've seen reports than Nsubuga has financial trouble participating in the World Cup. He may have been replaced voluntarily...

The newest announcment (https://www.fide.com/news/2454) has Nsubuga as representative again, so I put him back in the list instead of Walter. A3811 (talk) 15:22, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Participants for the World Cup edit

FIDE gave this list of participants https://www.fide.com/docs/regulations/20230612_World_Cup_Baku_list_of_players_confirmed.xlsx (downloads a spreadsheet) for the World Cup. Many qualified participants are missing from this list, as well as some other participants added with no indication as to what they were added for. Does anyone have any more information than what's given here? FIDE will likely finalise a list by July, but what should we be doing in the meantime? Nakamura edit

Nakamura qualified by rating, so why was he given a Wildcard? A3811 (talk) 07:51, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

He qualified by rating, declined his invitation and was replaced, then changed his mind and received a wildcard. We might wanna add that note. Nojus R (talk) 05:52, 30 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Christopher Yoo edit

One of the Christopher Yoo hyperlinks (bracket) takes you to the page of a Law professor rather then the Junior US Grandmaster. 2804:1B3:1140:C8B1:1CFE:C5AD:1137:EBF8 (talk) 19:02, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unable to read the draw edit

Without spacing, the draw is very difficult to read. Compare to previous years (the current version of that article has also been changed). Greenman (talk) 10:31, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hans Niemann edit

Why is Hans Niemann not playing in the World Cup ? Does he not want to ? Or is there another reason ?

This is not an open tournament. You have to qualify for an invitation. Usually invitations go to the current world champion, world junior champion, the top four players in the previous World Cup, winners of zonal tournaments, highest ratings of zones, and a handful of nominees made by FIDE and by the host country. Niemann did not qualify and he was not among the nominees. Kingturtle = (talk) 05:55, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

qualifiers? edit

"The qualifiers are seeded here by their FIDE rating of July 2023"

Nothing in this article states how one qualifies to play in this event. If anyone knows the answer, please add it to the article. Kingturtle = (talk) 05:15, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

It does? There are parenthesis behind each player's name that says how they qualified, with a key underneath. Nojus R (talk) 21:48, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Samuel Sevian edit

Is there any info why Samuel Sevian is absent ? He always take part in World Cups since 2015. M.Karelin (talk) 01:52, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

He didn't qualify A3811 (talk) 09:00, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Title of the article edit

Why is the article titled the Chess World Cup if everyone, including official FIDE documents refer to it as the FIDE world cup? 1.159.110.18 (talk) 13:49, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Nepo, Magnus, and reserves for Candidates edit

Hi, if Nepo finishes in Top 3, or Magnus and he doesn't play Candidates, 4th place will qualify. However if both happen, there will only be 2 World Cup qualifiers. Is this worth a note in the article? A3811 (talk) 15:38, 13 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

No, I would say not. WP:CRYSTALBALL. If that situation comes up, we can add it - might as well wait until then. Couruu (talk) 11:40, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Elephant in the room edit

Azerbaijan is currently at war and that it's never mentioned at all in the article.

"Armenia did not nominate a player, and a third Organizer's nominee was invited instead." 2A02:B123:10:CE8D:B329:C0A3:92F5:E717 (talk) 16:53, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Notable performances edit

I am wondering whether or not this section should be kept in this page. There are no sources or criteria for who is to be included, and seems really off on an encyclopedia. 89.87.188.193 (talk) 12:55, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Need a Better Picture of Magnus Carlsen edit

That is a VERY unflattering picture... are there any better ones?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.181.65.62 (talk) 20:00, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
