can someone clean up the grammar in the last section on Screen Wipe:

"Brooker's style was funny and caustic, though nonetheless was sincere in his comments"

This is not english. Lets down an otherwise spot on article.

Toby cartoons

"Charlie Brooker did a series of (brilliant) one page cartoon strips advertising The Tottenham Court Road Computer Games Exchange which featured in the pages of (amongst others) 'Super Play' a Super Nintendo magazine. Each one was a pastiche of a well known computer game (Mariokart, Street Fighter II etc) and also featured appearences from well known celebrities such as Kylie Minogue & Brett Anderson.

"They built up quite a cult following in their time and perhaps deserve a mention?"

These cartons actually first appeared in Acne, a comic aimed at teenage boys featuring characters such as Blind-Man, Billy Butt and The Swear Bears (possible precursors to Bad Taste Bears?). I have a bunch of them somewhere with Brooker's name clearly visible, next time I have a clearout I shall make a reference to this and also an entry on Acne comic itself. the picture appears to show a ginger charlie brooker. this is a problem as he's not ginger. at all. god knows where this came from. can someone add a non-ginger picture? i'm too stupid.

having just watched a days worth of clips of screenwipe on youtube i can confirm that he's definitely not ginger. have replaced photo to remove pro-ginger bias. Evilswan 12:17, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Is Charlie Brooker really a Lynx as it says? Is there another meaning to this word apart from the big cat?

Also, "Charlie Brooker" is listed on the credits for a pop video of "Balustrades" by the band Drake, which was on a PCPro magazine cover CD in 1994 or so. Does anyone know if this is the same person? This article omits any mention of his family and personal life. His IMDb page does not mention anything either. Liz May Brice's article states that she and Brooker are a couple, but her IMDb page states that they lived (past tense) together. That makes things unclear. Does anyone know whether they are currently a couple? Does anyone know anything else about any other relationships he has had? How about his family? Sorry, but I was a UK student at the same time as Charlie (tho not the same university) and the dissertation system in those days generally worked as follows: 1) you chose your dissertation topic 2) you had topic approved by the department or a supervisor 3) you write the dissertation, often with a supervisor or advisor to support you 4) you pass or fail on the strength of what you've written 5) some institutions would even let you revise the paper and resubmit!

Short of gross negligence or malpractice on the part of the University, it's inconceivable that Charlie only found out the topic was unacceptable after his dissertation failed. Therefore, he failed to graduate for some other reason.

Removed section on Nylon magazine that claimed he'd written an article as Peaches Geldof. The citations didn't seem to match up to the claims, and I can't find any evidence for it anywhere on the internet. Almost certainly a hoax... surely? Is this really true? Oink comic finished in 1988 which means the oldest Brooker could have been was 16. Is he doing a Chris Morris and lying about his age? I must say, he does look a bit older than 38. Decampos (talk) 22:59, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Yes and somewhere I have a copy featuring one of his strips. Yes he really was that young - though the artwork was not incredibly complicated.

You can also find his name in various computer mags of the 80s as a contributor of tips etc. Example Crash! 20 pg 60 from 1985, which would put him at aged 14.78.150.134.12 (talk) 00:58, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Picture

This is just a minor point that I hope will not be met with offence. The current picture of Charlie Brooker is appalling. I don't personally have the expertise to change it, so I am essentially making a plea to anyone who does have the ability and have read this. "To Catch A Predator"

Reference to a "Screenburn" article Brooker wrote has been removed four times now by different editors. Can we make quite clear what the problem with this is;

The significance of this one article among hundreds isn't explained, and it appears to simply be the opinion of the contributing editor that its notable.
An article by Brooker can only be described as controversial if a reliable source has stated this. Citing the article itself is not enough.
The addition significantly misrepresents the article by lifting a quote out of context. The quote is; "When a TV show makes you feel sorry for potential child rapists, you know it's doing something wrong.". The parts in bold there are being omitted to suggest that Brooker is "expressing sympathy for paedophiles".
This is all original research anyway, no matter how erroneous the conclusion.
In biographies of living persons the criteria for accuracy, reliability and neutrality is high. This fails on all counts.

Some are suggesting that his twitter handle is a suitable source for his name. Well, not really. For all we know his twitter handle could be a satire on this article. Note that I am not saying that it isn't his name. Just that we need a good, unambiguous cite that says it is his name. Original research by editors (looking up unspecified microfiche) is also not suitable because it assumes that they are looking at the right person, and it can't be verified. The fact you added may be true and is sourced, but - according to my own subjective judgement - it does not provide useful or relevant information that will assist a reader understanding who Brooker is. See WP:WHIM, merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. Exok (talk) 18:10, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
