Untitled edit

Castine attempted to create "historic preservation" in 1995 and created a historic district in 1996. The attempt to preserve the architecture was botched and has done more damage to historic preservation than it helped. Historic preservation continues to be poorly managed and implemented and is slowly destroying many of the towns resources.

Fort Pentagouet edit

I added a brief mention of the above in the Castine article. Is it the exact same site? Please amend the text if that is the case. The fort was approximately 7 years before the Plymouth settlers so that rings true. --Stormbay 22:42, 9 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Battles or Raids? edit

Not to be a total kneebiter, but these seem to be more of devastating but one-sided raids than pitched battles between organized forces. LTC David J. Cormier (talk) 19:08, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Which "battles or raids?" are you talking about? This recent edit doesn't include anything about this. See WP:DIFF; are you suggesting that all the "Battles" sections should be re-named "Raids"? Please elaborate :> Doc9871 (talk) 07:40, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Early history edit

The article says, "The Castine peninsula appears on a 1612 chart submitted to King Henry IV of France by Samuel de Champlain, who called it the Pentagoët Peninsula..." That paragraph is also reproduced in the Fort Pentagouet article. Its source says no such thing and gives no detailed information on the history before 1630; it was added much later than the claim itself. The original source was this website of the city of Castine; the current version of the website no longer contains the claim. The obvious problem with this claim is that Henry IV died in 1610, making it unlikely that anything was submitted to him in 1612. Given that the original source apparently recanted, the article's current source does not confirm the content, and very likely something is wrong, either the king or the date, I'll remove the paragraph for now.
