Common carp edit

This needs help from a carp fisher. There is more on here about bighead and silver carp than on common carp, and no mention of common carp specifically, which is the main carp fished for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.189.112.163 (talk) 22:13, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Am I a B-52? edit

@Epipelagic: Two things... First "Tag bombing is the unjustified addition of numerous tags to pages or unjustified addition of one tag to multiple pages.” "Tag bombing does not apply to the moderate use of tags that are self-explanatory; having the same information on the talk page is a redundancy." my tags are justified and Cn doesnt require any explanation on the talk page. Also thats a WP:ESSAY not policy or guideline. Second, are you genuinely denying that Category:Cyprinid fish of Africa exist[1]? I don’t see how it can be false. Please explain yourself. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 00:16, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

You point out yourself, WP:TAGBOMBING says, "Tag bombing does not apply to the moderate use of tags". You tagged 16 paragraphs. That is not a "moderate" use. And you omitted to quote what came after that... "There is no need to add {{citation needed}} tags to numerous unreferenced statements in an article when {{unreferenced}} or {{refimprove}} would state equivalent information". You then aggravated the matter by adding all your paragraph tags back and additionally tagging the article as a whole. That is disruptive behaviour. Second, of course there are cyprinid fish in Africa these days. The carp are introduced (see: Moreau, J.; Costa-Pierce, B. (1997). "Introduction and present status of exotic carp in Africa". Aquaculture Research. 28 (9): 717–732. doi:10.1046/j.1365-2109.1997.00831.x.}. You introduced false (and uncited) information to the lead in the article, and made an incendiary accusation of "racism" in the edit summary. I see you have also aggressively templated my user page, accusing me of edit warring. That is also disruptive behaviour. Please just stop. — Epipelagic (talk) 00:58, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
We’re talking about cyprinid fish native to Africa not introduced to Africa... The Silver cyprinid is but one of more than a hundred. So again, what false information? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 02:02, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
The article is about recreational fishing and the fish recreational fisherman call carp. "Carp" is not a formal taxon, it's a common name, not a scientific name, a vernacular or colloquial term used in English-speaking countries. Read the article on carp. — Epipelagic (talk) 02:39, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
None of the sources on the page carp back you up, its an unsourced statement on that page too. I’ve been to English speaking Africa, they call a number of their native cyprinids carp. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 03:56, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
People with English backgrounds may well have introduced carp from the northern hemisphere. And naturally they would be likely to refer to carp-like fish as carp. If you can find reliable sources to back your thinking then why not move the article along? This is a longstanding article from the days when citations were not so much a thing in areas like recreational fishing, not unless the text was controversial. That has changed and the article definitely needs citations now. If you are interested you have many options to contribute constructively here instead of tedious posturing with incendiary accusations. I moved on from this article a decade ago, and only occasionally check it for vandalism. Hopefully I'm out of here for now. — Epipelagic (talk) 04:51, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ahhhem... Much of Africa is in the northern hemisphere. Also common carp had been introduced to Africa hundreds of years before they were introduced to England so your statement confuses me. What exactly is the point of repeatedly making uneducated statements besides embarrassing yourself? This is so weird, why fight so hard for a phrase that isn't even sourced? Does excluding Africa really mean that much to you? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:05, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, more tedious posturing and incendiary insinuation. I'll leave you to it. — Epipelagic (talk) 17:13, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I will take "tedious posturing and incendiary insinuation" over ignorance and an unwillingness to collaborate to improve wikipedia any day. Its not my fault that you keep sticking your foot in your mouth. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:34, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
