Board

edit

Consider adding a description of the board (never played, wouldn't know) -- Ilyanep

Wikify tag

edit

I think that with just a bit more in the intro paragraph, this article will be ready for the wikify tag to be removed AbsolutDan 22:59, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Picture of the board

edit

I think that the previous picture of the board was more illustrative. It has the numbers at the top of each column and the direction of advance is clear. Val42 07:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree - i'm re-adding it, but as a second image, not as a replacement to the top image. Feel free to move around for best appearance --AbsolutDan (talk) 17:07, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for adding it back. I'd make another edit, but I'd rather reach a consensus before doing so. I think that the infobox should show the commercially produced board. I've also looked at Board Game Geek and seen that there are several variations of home made boards. I think that we should add a section on this, and the homemade board should go there. What do you think? Val42 17:43, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree that although the homemade pic provides a better overall look at the game, the pic of the original board should probably be first -- seeing as "Can't Stop" was originally a commercially produced game, and the homemade boards are knockoffs and came later. Someone who has the original board could always update it with a better overview shot, perhaps. If there is truly a substantial "build-your-own" community, then yes a section on homemade boards would also be appropriate. Be bold, Val42! --AbsolutDan (talk) 18:19, 1 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Being bold, I've made the change.
The previous "image" was a text version of the board. I have the commercially produced game, so I arranged the board and took the picture that is on this page as a better illustration of the game. I only used three of the four colors, and I should have used yellow instead of the green for better contrast with the blue. If you have a suggestion for a better picture, let me know. Sorry about erasing the original image I didn't know where to put it... now i agree with both of you and the homemade section. great idea... thank you200.65.47.56 07:17, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Commercial Publishing

edit

This has also been published commercially by Franjos [1] - and it is certainly still available from them, so i don't know if the 'out of print' statemment is true or not.

Game is also available in France, see BGG [2].

Strategy

edit

The old text said that 4,6,8 was more probable that 6,7,8 of getting a match - this was incorrect, but the writer was on the right track, in that 4,6,8 gives more benefit for the risk involved. This is much more than anyone would want to know, but here's the analysis. "Hits" means the chance of matching on reroll, matches per hit is the expected number of matches (1 minimum, 2 maximum) with the two pairs formed, benefit is the sum of expected progress along one or two columns by a reroll.

Quick comments

edit

At least in the Palitoy version I have, this is one of the very few games where the pictures on the box are of a legal position!

That's a nice homemade board... Lovingboth 10:05, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

A little late to the party, but I just discovered Can't Stop on Board Game Arena (it is their tutorial game). I read the article and a point is made that "The official rules merely say "If you can place a marker, you must...", not stating if that applies before or after a player decides how to subdivide the four dice." Etc. I agree it could be confusing. I would like to point out that if the sentence "If the neutral markers are already on the board in one or both of these columns, they are advanced one space upward" was changed to read, "if there is already a marker of the rolling player's color or a neutral marker in the column, it is advanced one space upward" would satisfy the possible confusion over "if you can place a marker you must" and be clearer and more accurate in the first place. Disambiguation

edit

There are now links to two other articles by the same name except for different areas. Is there any reason why this article should have priority on this name? Would anyone object to me moving this page then redirecting this article to a disambiguation page? Val42 17:46, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:CantStop-sm.png

edit

Image:CantStop-sm.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hatnote

edit

This article does not require a disambiguating hatnote, per the guideline Wikipedia:Hatnotes#Disambiguating article names that are not ambiguous, and I don't see a reason why this article should be an exception. Nothing ambiguous redirects here, and there is no other article title with which this one could be confused. Unless someone can offer a reason for keeping the hatnote, I think it should be removed. --ShelfSkewed Talk 11:36, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
