Plot Summary
editO yes, it needs an infobox...but it also needs a plot summary. Classical Esther (talk) 08:42, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I added a table of contents and a plot summary, but I did not add an infobox as wasn't sure what information would be wanted or appreciated by resident editors (I realize that editors' opinions, ideas, and quirks regularly overrule readers' interests and needs, so avoiding this potential area of conflict seemed better than wading into that particular fray).
- Besides which, my fledgling plot summary is in desperate need of editing. Then again, the whole damn novel is in desperate need of editing. It is somewhat difficult to summarize the novel's contents as it basically boils down to "Edgar goes out of his way to misunderstand, misinterpret, and distrust Camilla, her feelings for him, and his feelings for her before finally learning how to trust and communicate a little (but only a very little)." I would call the subplots filler, but point in fact the seemingly endless back and forth between Edgar and Camilla are the only parts of the novel that I could ever consider to be filler. As I understand, even Burney herself noted that she only wanted a lot of extra scenes for readers to weep at as such novels generally did sold better and enjoyed more popularity and loyalty from its readers than more concise and less contrived romances.
- In any case, anyone who can more concisely and elegantly summarize the plot is welcome to it. Their efforts would be highly appreciated. 98.225.90.57 (talk) 12:42, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
