Let's think about it this way, if there was a University of California College of Engineering article, where would it redirect? Would it chauvinistically redirect to University of California, Berkeley College of Engineering? I beg to differ. There are nine colleges of engineering in California associated with that name. In the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, Orange County and the Inland Empire the term "Cal Poly College of Engineering" is associated with the college of engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. Officially or unofficially, people who are local to Cal Poly Pomona refer to the university as "Cal Poly". I'm sorry, but unless you can come up with a way to change their minds, which would obliterate room for confusion, there must be a disambiguation page.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's elided name

I think the name of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's College of Engineering should not be displayed in its elided form but the lengthier to avoid confusion. Otherwise it'll be exactly as the disambiguation page's name. I object. The article "Cal Poly College of Engineering," until recently, actually went to SLO's engineering page. There is no need for a disambig; hatnotes would do the job. "Cal Poly College of Engineering" literally *is* the name of the Cal Poly College of Engineering. As a compromise, I am fine with the entry being "Cal Poly College of Engineering (San Luis Obispo)." A Google search for "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering" returns 22,200 entries whereas "Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering" returns 15,600 entries. Clearly a lot of people use the term "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering" whether Cal Poly San Luis Obispo officials like it or not. To me and to the millions who live in the Greater Los Angeles area, the "Cal Poly College of Engineering" is in Pomona. We refer to the other college of engineering as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or Cal Poly SLO for short. Wikipedia does not follow ridiculous corporate naming policies and no Cal Poly San Luis Obispo official will make me, and thousand of others, refer to our college of engineering as they please. Since User:71.202.205.242 keeps reverting and opposes to address Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's college of engineering by its article name , I'll ask the assistance of an administrator to settle the dispute. 'Cal Poly' is the official name of California Polytechnic State University. Such usage is explicitly rejected by Cal Poly Pomona. It is also the name that is literally used by the Cal Poly College of Engineering. Take a look at ceng.calpoly.edu. In addition to official usage, "Cal Poly" in common usage refers to California Polytechnic State University as well. Calpoly.edu, calpoly.com, calpoly.net, and calpoly.org all go to Cal Poly, not Cal Poly Pomona. In the NCAA, Cal Poly is referred to as the "Cal Poly Mustangs," whereas Pomona are "Cal Poly Pomona Broncos." In facebook, the universities are referred to as "Cal Poly" and "Cal Poly Pomona." Cal Poly Pomona recently added an additional "P" on its hillside, to make "CPP"-Cal Poly Pomona--this was explicitly done because the university was making sure people understood Pomona as Cal Poly Pomona. I'd like to add that I am fine with using 'Cal Poly College of Engineering (San Luis Obispo)' as a compromise. Even if I wanted to do so, according to Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Usage_guidelines:

"Do not pipe disambiguation links. Showing the entire linked article title avoids confusion, which is the reason for the link in the first place."

Hence "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering" should be the title displayed for the college of engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the Cal Poly College of Engineering disambiguation page. Further, that's precisely why there's a hatnote on top of the introductory paragraph of each article. This goes to the heart of my position. The article name "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering" is incorrect, and should not be used. Up until recently, the article title was, in fact, "Cal Poly College of Engineering." I suggest we change the name of the "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering" article to "Cal Poly College of Engineering (San Luis Obispo)."
