Talk:Braeside, Greenock

Comment edit

I Have lived in Braeside most of my life. I was only 6 months old when my mum and dad got their first council house in Dalriada Road. My sister was 3 at the time. My mum told me that my dad had given me his watch to hold so that they could look around their new home and i banged it on the floor( which was concrete)and broke it into pieces. My mum and dad had another 2 children, 2 boys. We all loved living in Breaside as it near the fields and when you were bigger it was a great place to play. The fields that we Played in is now a housing estate. I remember the winters years ago the snow would be feets high and nobody could go to school as the transport was unable to come up the hill as we lived at the top of Braeside. My poor parents had to walk to the main road to get to work. Talking of work a lot of buses would take people to work from the local shops and both mem and woman this was their only transport as nobody had cars. We had 2 shops and a chippy which is now the local pub. Peter's and his brothers helped him build his shop and he worked in his shop until he died in 2005.The other shop changed owners all the time. We used to have vans coming around selling food. The rag man would come and you would take out anything that you did not want and get a ballon or a cheap toy and you thought it was great. You loved to here his trumpet.I remember walking to the beach (lunderson bay)in the summer. We would all walk over the hills to the beach and neighbours would go as well. No taxies in thoes days.I remember the cows going through the streets to the slaughter house in the town and when waiting to get a bus home from the town you would here the noise of them getting slaughtered.Breaside has and still is a wonderful place to stay and bring up a family and i hope it never changes.
