The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency uses the name Blake Basin as well as some references but the majority use the name Blake–Bahama Basin. I have added this to the lead but consideration may be appropriate concerning a move to the more referenced name. Otr500 (talk) 17:20, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- Caution before moving. NGIA uses the official Board of Geographic Names approved name and that usually is coordinated with international organizations, including the International Hydrographic Organization, so that the approved name will be the name used by national chart making and official publications. I note (quick search) the alternative name's use seems to be in some scientific journals and such. Those often use names popular within that community at the time of publication and may be non-standard. Before moving the article it would be best to check the current official name recognized internationally with the alternate listed as such. Palmeira (talk) 00:20, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, I wasn't going to move it, or pursue any such avenue. I just saw the alternate name was used a lot so brought it up. I have not even looked to discern one way or the other concerning any "common" name as opposed to an "approved" name. I usually eschew any "official" name over regional, local, and especially more common names but there are so many exceptions. Bottom line is I saw the alternate name referenced several times, to include The Earth Beneath the Sea History, so like to bring light to things like this.
