Unincorporated?

edit

According to the GNIS link, Big Muddy is a locale meaning "Place at which there is or was human activity; it does not include populated places, mines, and dams (battlefield, crossroad, camp, farm, ghost town, landing, railroad siding, ranch, ruins, site, station, windmill)." Since Unincorporated Community is a subcategory of Category:Populated places, perhaps Big Muddy qualifies not as an unincorporated community, but as a ghost town.– Gilliam (talk) 07:43, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Locale, in this sense is a nice way of saying that GNIS does not know alot about a set community. A locale, can have a post office, a local can have other significant places. GNIS is not writ in stone, it is a VERY good guide, but not by definition perfect. I have been lucky enough to correct a few GNIS entries, IF people still live there, do you want to tell them the place is not populated? There are ALOT of examples in WV, KY and yes, Wyoming.....
