n-word?

I don't think we're supposed to be bowdlerized. WP:BOWDLERIZE says not to; that's only a guideline, but it makes sense to me I guess, altho it'd be reasonable to disagree. But for one thing, we get a lot of non-native speakers here, and they might not know what "n-word" means. For another thing, we have actual pictures in the Wikipedia of people doing all sorts of peculiar (and sometimes alarming) sexual things to each other, so apparently we're not super squeamish. On the other hand, we shouldn't have those pictures IMO so maybe we should be a little squeamish.

But anyway, WP:BOWDLERIZE says that if we're quoting we're allowed to follow the source ("John Smith wrote they were 'yelling the n-word like there was no tomorrow' and shooting guns" or whatever). On the other hand, our use of "n-word" in the article as it stands is not a direct quote. But it could probably be re-written as a direct quote. But then you have the problem of people in India not knowing what we're saying, and anyway I'm not sure if digging up and using a direct quote would be called for except on grounds of squeamishness. The good citizens of Bethel, Ohio are who they are, and they said what they said, and we're supposed to report facts without fear or favor.

Taken all together, I replaced "n-word" with the actual word, subject to BRD and discussion. It doesn't make me happy to do it, but I guess its in line with what we do here. Herostratus (talk) 22:23, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Only place in Ohio to have a witch trial

Not sure if this belongs in the history section or not. Figured I would bring it up in the talk section.

Bethel was the only location in Ohio to have a witch trial. That designation seems like a significant part of history.

In 1805, Nancy Evans was put on trial for being a witch after her neighbor's children started throwing fits. Nancy Evans was found not guilty after the court weighed her at her trial and she weighed more than a Bible. 1 2 3
