Soviet SEALs

What's the name of the soviet/ukranian SEALs that lived on this island (May-Island) near Ochakiv? At the Soviet coup attempt of 1991 they unanimously refused the order to watch over president Gorbachev in his dacha in Foros (southernmost city on Crimea). After that the military unit was the first to take the oath of allegiance to Ukraine. I guess it's not Berkut. -- Cherubino 01:56, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Need more material--foreign language okay

1. Fellow Wikipedians: Did you all notice that the founder of Wikipedia himself, Jimbo Wales, honored this article by weighing in [1] the other day? (And the honor is greater, IMO, for the fact that he hasn't been editing very many articles of late, according to his user contributions page.)

2. If anybody has more examples of attacks or voter intimidation (even including an explanation of the regular m.o. of voter intimidation)--with qualifying published sources--I'd be happy to help add to the article. Valid Ukrainian or Russian language sources are fine.

Many have not disbanded

NYT article

There is an interesting problem with the large NYT quote added to this article by user:Jimbo Wales in January[2]] which was raised at User talk:Russavia#Unusual edit -- did the New York Times change a story without a note?. The copyright aspect is an interesting fair use issue, as the quoted passage is not being critically discussed in the prose of the article that was added, and the object of Wikipedia is self-evidently to replace the need to consult all of the sources, but whether quoting and citing large passages reduces the commercial value of the source is not something I am familiar with the case law.

Anyway, .. the NYT article has essentially been retracted. Not just amended, but disappeared. user:Tarc noted that this can be seen at http://www.newsdiffs.org/article-history/www.nytimes.com/2014/01/28/world/europe/ukraine-leader-faces-new-pressure-to-end-unrest.html . Can anyone see a statement from the NYT about this disappeared story? IMO we should just replace it with other sources, and remove/rephrase where we have to. The first part of the quote can be re-sourced easily, as it was widely reported that Mykhailo Gavrylyak was mistreated in Berkut hands, apologies were given officially, etc.[3]

However the second half of the quote, if I understand correctly, refers to Yuri Verbitsky/Yuriy Verbytskyi and while there is credible sources reporting what happened to Yuri, and it is a very high profile case, I havent found another reliable source which attributes this act to the Berkut. I looked at the sources for his entry on List of people killed during Euromaidan#Identified victims and didnt see (through the Google Translate lens) any of them clearly claiming that the Berkut did it. I think we should assume the NYT action to be a silent retraction of the article or some part of it. If there aren't significant other sources confirming the claims there, I think the entire incident should stay deleted.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 19:59, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
